Natural Dyeing Course Part of this weeks homework dying with marigolds. An interesting range on silk, cotton and wool, fabric and thread. I am going to try modifying some of these. I also made some paper with the marigold petals that were left from the dye pot.

Really got going on my natural dye course this week with the Ditchling Dyers. Previously we dyed a variety of fabric and thread samples with logwood, which we then modified. Samples from the workshop this weekend include madder, birch bark and cutch. Between now and the next session I will have fun experimenting with walnut and calendula.

Ditchling Dye course first homework complete. Wool, cotton and linen samples all mordanted and ready for the next stage of dyeing. My dye garden that I started last year is coming along nicely too. Dyer’s camomile, saw-wort, madder, weld, Japanese indigo and marigolds all in the mix.

Current exhibition, as part of Worthing Festival along with two fellow students from The 1m square linen cloth represents the 1m x 1m plot of flax I grew last year. The thread used to stitch multiple 10cm x 10cm. squares onto it is the flax I grew, processed and spun. Other pieces include handmade paper with flax inclusions and randomly woven vessels using flax and nettle. fibres. The exhibition is open from Tuesday 16th -Saturday 20th June 10am - 5pm at Colonnade House House Gallery, Worthing. paper
