DESERT ISLAND ALBUMS

One thing that has really blown me away since I started looking after the Soundmagic socials is the incredible range of influences you guys have and the way you take those influences and mix them into your own music.

So I’ve started asking some of the bands I’ve already interviewed to pick their Desert Island albums and tell us a little bit about why they’ve chosen them. I’ll be sharing their lists regularly, so we can get a glimpse into the records that have shaped the music coming out of our local scene.

I thought I’d kick things off with my own. Now I initially asked bands for 5 records but then ended up with 13 myself! These are records that have influenced a little of what The Dusk Orchestra does, as well as what I do behind the drums. They’re albums I’ve gone back to time and time again and, for one reason or another, have stuck with me. Hope you enjoy and hopefully discover something you haven’t heard before.

Today we were delighted to welcome Siobhian Brown MSP to Soundmagic for a tour of the studio and a chance to chat about the work we do here.

We spoke about the importance of having a thriving local music scene and the role that spaces like ours play in giving musicians a place to rehearse, record, develop their skills and, most importantly, come together.

It was great to share what we’ve been building and our hopes for the future of the studio and the wider local music community.

A big thank you to Siobhian and her team for taking the time to visit and for their continued support. It was a pleasure to have you with us.

This week’s Band of the Week are Tickstarhappyface, an incredible young alternative rock band who are newly formed and just getting started on the live circuit.

They’ve been honing their setlist and developing their sound here at Soundmagic over the past few months, and this coming Saturday they’ll be stepping onto the stage for their first ever gig as a band.

With a sound that will appeal to fans of Nirvana, The Cure, Pixies and Type O Negative, these guys are definitely ones to keep an eye on.

We’re delighted to have played a small part in helping them get ready for their first show, and we can’t wait to see where they go from here.

Go give them a follow and show them some support as they kick off their live journey.

Band of the Week - Magentless

Bringing plenty of energy with a mix of pop-punk and rock, Magentless features members of The Misprints who we caught up with a few months ago. They're currently busy building a set packed with brilliant original material and some covers.

With live shows lined up over the next few months, they’re definitely a band to keep an eye on. If you’re into high-energy performances and catchy hooks, make sure you give them a follow and show your support.

The full Prestfest Music Festival 2026 lineup has officially been announced, and what a fantastic lineup it is.

We’re especially proud to see so many familiar faces taking to the stages throughout the weekend. A number of the artists performing are regulars here at Soundmagic and it’s brilliant to see local talent being given such a great platform.

Prestfest is always a highlight of the summer, bringing live music, great atmosphere and the local community together. If you haven’t made plans yet, make sure you get along for what promises to be another incredible weekend.

Congratulations to all the artists announced, and a huge well done to the Prestfest team, volunteers and sponsors for making it all happen. We’ll be there cheering everyone on!

Marc James Music, singer from the ridiculously good Static Sky, is looking to get back into solo gigging. Marc is a brilliant entertainer with one of the best singing voices in the business. Give him a shout if you’re looking for someone to entertain your punters.
