Ayr Film Society

Ayr Film Society South Ayrshire's multi award-winning community-led cinema, bringing world cinema to your doorstep since 1973.

Cinema for All Awards - distinction for Best Film Programme 2024. Our annual Season runs from Sept to March, with screenings on Thursday evenings at Ayr Town Hall. Tickets can be booked online at www.ayrfilmsociety.co.uk

The Ayr Film Society was founded in 1973 by a group of 5 or 6 individuals passionate about film and about sharing this with other individuals in the community. At the inaugurat

ion of the original Ayr Film Society (1973) membership was charged £1 for a season of five feature films for season spring 1973. In the late 70’s in conjunction with the local teacher training college, Craigie College, we amalgamated due to the expansion of our society and the decimation of the college society. At that point we amended our name to Ayr & Craigie College Film Society, later to be truncated to Ayr & Craigie Film Society when the college became part of Paisley University. Latterly when Paisley University (Craigie Campus) became the Ayr campus of the University of the West of Scotland we reverted to using our original name Ayr Film Society. Based in the heart of the community, at the Town Hall in the seaside town of Ayr, on the west coast of Scotland, the organisation endeavours to provide an interesting and eclectic mix of contemporary, classic, European, Asian and Latin American films as well as animation and documentaries. Amid a flourishing cultural and arts community the organisation works hard to boast a diverse programme of thought-provoking and challenging films. In terms of demographics, we actively encourage the community as we recognize, embrace and hopefully inject a suitable variety of cinematic delights, which complements the diverse range of cultural and leisure activities on offer within the local community.
