The photo that wasn't...
I've had this composition on my mind for about two years. The Isle of Arran isn't far from where I live, but it's still an island, which makes the "trying to get the photo" a little bit harder. Two weekends ago I travelled across, hoping to get this (or a very similar) image. The tide, the blue hour foreground , the Milky Way core azimuth with its 9-minute visibility window - I had it all planned. But this is Scotland, and the weather rarely plays ball here. So after spending the otherwise lovely weekend on Arran with no clear sky at night, I brought home the foreground shot, which I've combined with one of my sky photos from 2025.
Maybe one day I'll actually manage to get the real shot of the Milky Way over Pladda. Until then - this will have to do.

Solar eclipse 2026 (not)seen from Girvan. All in all I spent pleasant two hours, mainly chatting with dog walkers wishing me luck. Well, some luck and a bit more patience allowed me to capture this scene at 19.31. I'll count it as a success :-)

Another summer outing with the camera club, this time to Ballast Bank in Troon. Finally some good foreground for my long exposure experiments, and a short moment of great light illuminating Arran and the clouds.

Arran looks even more stunning from the Isle of Bute. Here are some shots taken during my weekend trip to Bute in June.

To be more grounded, aware, present - that's the only way to notice things and really see them. Guy Tal's imagery is a constant reminder of that simple truth.

"Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing! Everything is beautiful, all that matters is to be able to interpret."

—Camille Pissarro, to his son Lucien

Running away from rainy Ayrshire to Loch Lomond. First, a brief visit to RSPB with a distant view of an osprey; then Balmaha. A lot of wind, waves, and dappled light on the surrounding mountains. And very little rain!

Same photo, different brag ;-)
From next Saturday (8th of August) this image will be displayed at the 162nd Edinburgh International Photography Exhibition. I'm really pleased with the acceptance to this prestigious, print only exhibition. It's been running annually since 1861, and is one of the major photographic events in the world. And my image got in, yesssss! :D
You can see my print during the Edinburgh Festivals (Fringe) at 68 Great King Street, EH3 6QU.
