Unbound Theatre

Unbound Theatre Award-winning company at the heart of storytelling in Buckinghamshire.

Unbound is the award-winning company at the heart of storytelling in Buckinghamshire, operating under the mission statement of ‘Tell Great Stories’ from its home at Queens Park Arts Centre. With work spanning theatre, audio, and film, Unbound have produced over 100 unique projects since launching in 2014. The company gives hundreds of local actors, writers, directors, and artists the opportunity t

o discover and develop their skills as storytellers and provides affordable (often free) entertainment and inspiration to thousands of people every year. Led by professional practitioners volunteering to pass on their experience and expertise to aspiring local talent, recent years have seen Unbound begin building the base to support professional paid work in the county, widening the creative opportunities open to creatives living and working in Bucks. Unbound’s storytelling spans a diverse range of genres and forms, including new writing, contemporary plays, Shakespeare, improvisation, rehearsed readings, audiobooks and plays, podcasts, feature-length films, pantomime, sketch comedy, musical theatre, and more. One of the company’s key achievements and aims is to take high-quality storytelling to new venues and audiences, mixing traditional theatre performances with a wide variety of interactive storytelling techniques that aim to uncover, celebrate and inspire local stories. Unbound are in demand to create work for local events and venues, with performances in public spaces and established sites offering quality accessible theatre to the local community. In addition to performances, Unbound’s ethos welcomes and encourages anyone with an interest in storytelling to get involved, with affordable workshops and training opportunities running throughout the year, as well as open casting calls for dozens of projects, enabling those just starting out as storytellers to work alongside and learn from experienced practitioners.

We know we've been a bit quiet online the last few weeks... but we've been busy!

After 43 years, our home theatre space at Queens Park Arts Centre is undergoing some much-needed renovation, with new seating and a coat of paint. We've some brilliant contractors in, but there's a fair old amount for us to do in our Limelight Theatre, too:

- Clearing the theatre completely of all equipment
- Dismantling the old raked seating
- Removing old fixtures
- Making new balcony boards and assembling pipe covers
- Cleaning and repairing hundreds of items of tech equipment
- Running cables to improve our PA system
- Clearing the prop store and adding new shelving
- Sorting and cataloguing thousands of props
- Building new costume storage (and a lot more cataloguing)
- Reorganising our scene dock

We want to take a moment to thank the team who've been working flat-out every day of the week, and to the amazing volunteers who've gone above and beyond, to get jobs done. We've still a huge amount to do, but things are looking grand.

And yes, regular business resumes very soon! We've exciting Autumn projects to launch, casting calls to share, this year's Shakespeare Festival to celebrate (and next year's to announce).

Right, then. Back to work!
