Bowie Statue Aylesbury

Bowie Statue Aylesbury Earthly Messenger. Located under the arches by Old County Hall at the bottom of the Market Square Aylesbury HP20 1XD

An awesome statue in Aylesbury's Market Square, to celebrate the life and work of David Bowie and his strong connection to, and love of, Friars club and the town.

Something weird happened to the previous .net version. It was somehow stolen and has ended up in China. So please DO NOT use the old domain address.

EARTHLY MESSENGER IS BACK!
at www.earthlymessenger.com
After several months of being offline the we**am for the Bowie statue Earthly Messenger in Aylesbury Market Square is back but instead of being at earthlymessenger.net you can now find it at earthlymessenger.com.
Something weird happened to .net. It somehow got stolen and ended up in China. Eventually we gave up trying to trace it and buy it back and decided to start again with .com
You can now see EM live again 24/7. Some Sundays at 9.00am you can even see me polishing it and replenishing the information cards. Blimey.

Councillors Julie Ward, Racheal Matthews and myself were asked to launch a new tribute to Friars Aylesbury. It's the 'Secret Window' and is opposite the Bowie statue Earthly Messenger under the arches at the bottom of Aylesbury Market Square. The installation by Rebecca Dedman features Friars images of Bowie, Blondie's Debbie Harry and Nigel Harrison and Dennis Brown. Nigel (otherwise known as 'Tig' Harrison) was brought up in Princes Risborough and was in lots of local bands including Smokey Rice and Farm. Julie was instrumental in creating the installation, and Racheal is in charge of town centre regeneration. Sorry about the hat. You can check out the Secret Window website here: https://www.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/.../the-secret-window.../

Today is the 50th anniversary of Bowie giving Friars Aylesbury the world premiere of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders from Mars album, which has to be one of the most significant gigs in Friars long 52-year history…….and of contemporary music in general.
On 29th January 1972 we were expecting Hunky Dory and he did Changes, Song for Bob Dylan, Andy Warhol, Life on Mars, and Queen Bitch but what came next was a complete surprise. It was a completely new suite of songs which turned out to be the Ziggy Stardust album.
The photo below, by the legendary Michael Putland, was taken that night and is also the front cover of The Thin White Book – a history of David Bowie and Friars Aylesbury.
Big thanks to Mark Adams who runs the excellent official Bowie website and social media pages for all his support.
This weekend every song played above Earthly Messenger in Aylesbury’s Market Square (the world’s first and so far only Bowie Statue) will be a Ziggy track. At 2.00pm today (Saturday) the whole of the Ziggy album will be played including of course ‘Five Years’ which references Aylesbury Market Square. See you there.

From Sculptor Andrew Sinclair's post earlier today...Celebrating Bowie’s 75th Birthday. This memorial was commissioned to celebrate David Bowie’s links with Aylesbury. Bowie first appeared at Friars Aylesbury in September 1971, performing the world debut of Hunky Dory. In January 1972 he unveiled this alter-ego Ziggy Stardust for the very first time at Friars.

David would have been 75 tomorrow. He's still with us in spirit. This was Earthly Messenger this morning. Lovely to see that someone left some flowers.
