Adam Blencoweâs new public commission for LO42 Avon Street, Bristol is beginning to take shape.
Inspired by the industrial history of Avon Street, once home to the Panther Lead and Silver Works, a riverside foundry that operated for more than 100 years, Adam's commission translates hidden industrial processes into sculptural forms within todayâs landscape.
Positioned beside the river, the works are designed as places to gather and spend time, quietly carrying traces of the siteâs past into the present.
The artist recently visited the timber yard at Howard Gibbons Reclamation in Exford, where reclaimed Opepe timber â previously used within a railway bridge â was selected for the commission. Each piece is checked for concealed metal fixings before being re-milled to reveal the timberâs vibrant natural colour.
Outside Adamâs workshop at Cutterne Mill, Evercreech, bronze elements referencing foundry processes are being tested and assembled. Components are arranged to check scale and proportion, while an initial test piece has been installed to confirm the mounting and drainage system.
More soon from the workshop and making process!
