Big Skies at Atherstone Arts and Crafts Group

Lincolnshire, Pembrokeshire , The Isle of Man , East Sussex, ‘Above the containers’ in Atherstone , Grendon in Winter, Staithes in Yorkshire , ‘Happy Valley’, Tywyn in Wales and The Lakes were just some of the areas where the skies inspired our artists to record the views in paint for the Big Skies Challenge . It was an excellent and varied set of artwork . Fantastic work everyone.

For members-
I didn’t get a chance to take the photos from Thursday morning’s session , other than those displayed for the Big Skies Challenge. Therefore feel free to send in your photos via what’s app if you’d like them to be shown this week. Thanks , Chris 😊

Notice for members

Due to the weather forecast for this coming Thursday 13th Aug (Accuweather is 37C/98F) the ‘Big Skies’ display set for that morning , will be carried forward to the following Thursday , August 20th .
As some members will give this week’s session a miss due to the heat ,it would be a shame to not have everyone’s artwork altogether . Thanks, Chris

Atherstone Arts and Crafts Group
Buildings featured heavily this week, not least due to our Urban Sketchers meeting to sketch on Atherstone’s wonderful Market Square. In the YHQ we welcomed Sian back who added to the usual breadth of creativity by working solely in gouache.
Conversations touched on the continued heat and the repercussions for food production and how to use ornamental gourds!
Next week, August 13th, is the day to bring in the Big Skies Challenge artwork and a new Challenge will begin.

Thanks to Gail for taking today’s photos of members work . There are a number at the WIP stage , Ben finished his at home after the session and two of the group sent in artwork created during the last few weeks covering the challenges on ‘Big Skies’ and the ongoing ‘Walks Sketchbook/Journal’.

Atherstone Arts and Crafts Group

It was another well attended Thursday morning session at the YHQ. The weather is still very warm , with the news reporting wild fires, hose pipe bans and little talk of future rain.
For those of you who are interested, there is an Open Exhibition with the title “The Artist’s Process” currently running until 14th August at the Atkins Building, Hinckley.
Coincidentally , in the photos you’ll see some of our artists were experimenting with ideas , sketches , choice of colours etc before committing to an actual artwork. All part of their artistic process.
