What a day yesterday was, and a day I will never ever forget. Been going through the posts on social media this morning, and the positivity and impact yesterday has had on the community is incredible and heart warming to see. I deal with celebrities for a living and I think yesterday was the first time I had a real moment, and infact the only time I’ve ever got star struck.

Sir Geoff Hurst is man who has achieved the greatest sporting accolade possible. This is a man of humbleness, from the golden generation, what now seems a different universe to the modern era that we live in today. A man who scored a winning hat trick for England in a World Cup final, and the morning after was mowing the lawn doing his daily choirs in his family home. I could listen his stories all day. Was chatting to him about his relationship with George Best, and Sir Matt Busby making a then world record bid to take him to Man Utd amongst other things, and to share a stage with him while the 1966 World Cup final was being played on a giant screen, and present him with a thank you from the people of the town he originates from, and to see what it meant to him is an honour and surreal. For me this moment was so special, and to share it with a true legend, a hero, and an icon, from a man that is so grounded and humble through it all, words can barely describe.

Still buzzing from an incredible day for the town, we will now go into finish the square, and we will be naming it after our greatest sporting hero Sir Geoff Hurst 🏆⚽️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Street Life is a one-day community festival taking over Market Avenue and surrounding streets for the fourth time. Free to attend and open to all ages, the event celebrates Ashton with a huge line-up of sport, music, performance, food, film and tv spectacle.

The laughter beneath the floorboards 👣

Shopkeepers have reported the distinct sound of children’s laughter echoing from the sealed Victorian street deep underground. No children were in the building. No doors were open. Just the faint, rhythmic sound of playing coming from the darkness below.

ASHTON UNDER LYNE BREAKING NEWS 🗞️

We are THRILLED to announce a true landmark day for the town. A day that proves this town is moving in a new direction, has true hope, and a vision.

After a full year of negotiations, today we have finally secured the WHOLE of Clarence Arcade!

Many years ago the site was split into two sections, and last year you may have saw that we secured 31 Clarence Arcade which is the corner plot of the site. We saved this magnificent heritage asset being turned into an HMO, and once this was secure we immediately turned our attention to doing anything and everything in our power to also secure the adjoining building, which is the bigger section of the arcade.

It has been a colossal effort as the building wasn’t for sale, it took a lot of persuading but after sharing our dream, and the benefit this site had to unlocking the potential of the town, we persuaded the previous owners to part with the building.

OUR VISION OF THE NEW CLARENCE ARCADE - ASHTON’S NEW HEART BEAT 👁️

Clarence Arcade is going to become the shopping experience that has been missing in Ashton for a long time. We are knocking the wall down that separates both buildings so it is one complete and intact indoor shopping arcade. The businesses that will be in the arcade will be carefully selected and quality controlled, there will be no v**e shops or pound shops, just high quality independant traders AND national brands.

This high quality, controlled offering will be VERY affordable for new businesses to establish, with all bills included in low rental packages, designed to nurture new business and bring out and showcase the best the town has to offer. We want to help develop and nurture creative new business and give them the spring board it needs to flourish.

Clarence Arcade will be sectioned into two halves and have 76 shops and units within its walls, all under one roof. The corner plot will be an Afflex Palace style layout, with 6x3 metre units over 4 floors, while the larger part of Clarence Arcade will have full shops. Units in the Afflex Palace side will start from as little as £500 pcm including all bills and business support.

👻 HAUNT ME IF YOU CAN! - PARANORMAL INVESTIGATION IN ASHTON! 👻

Something eerie is happening in Ashton-under-Lyne…

A professional team of ghost hunters has arrived in town yesterday to film an episode of a brand new paranormal series, Haunt Me If You Can!

Leading the investigation is horror host Dean of the Dead, joined by Mighty Boosh’s Naboo Mike Fielding (brother of Noel Fielding), alongside a full team of paranormal experts and a dedicated camera crew. Together, they’ll be exploring the unknown, uncovering secrets, and attempting to make contact with whatever may still linger in the shadows…

THE WOODEN SPOON MAJOR UPDATE…

It’s been a surreal day, to say the least, a day I never truly believed would come, but I’m so glad it has.

Last year, we put out several public appeals and posts asking if anyone knew the owners, or anyone who worked at the Wooden Spoon, who might be able to tell us more about the food and the recipes. After drawing blank after blank, we almost gave up hope that anyone connected to the chippy would still be around to share the secrets that made it the greatest chippy ever.

The Wooden Spoon was unique.

We went quiet for several months while chasing an inside lead and eventually discovered that the original owner was still around. After many hours of detective work, it finally paid off.

Today, I met with Russ in Ashton — the original owner of all the Wooden Spoon establishments. I now know the full history of the Wooden Spoon and am honoured that all of the secrets are being passed on to us so we can bring it back in all of its glory.

There will be no more taste tests. We will be bringing it back exactly as it was, because now we know how.

The Wooden Spoon will be reopening in a new location in the heart of Ashton, a site visited and approved by Russ today, though we couldn’t help but also visit the original location while we were there.

Determination, hard work, and fate have all come together as we get ready to write a new chapter in the story of the Wooden Spoon and Ashton-under-Lyne.
