Now this is our kind of hen do. 🥂👐

We recently took The Clayrooms on the road for this lovely pottery hen party at beautiful Wildhive in Derbyshire and what a setting to spend an afternoon making together.

There’s something lovely about getting everyone around one table, putting phones and everyday life to one side for a while, and seeing what everyone creates.

Our pottery hen parties can take place in our studios, at venues we regularly work with, or at a suitable venue chosen by your group.

We bring everything needed for the pottery session and guide everyone along the way, so nobody needs to have touched clay before.

Whether you’re planning a relaxed Derbyshire hen weekend or simply want an activity everyone can enjoy together, we’d love to help you make it memorable.

Imagine drinking your morning coffee from a mug you made yourself.
Lighting a candle feels that little bit more special when the holder came from your own hands.
A butter dish can become a piece you’re proud to use every day.

That's exactly what our next 5-week Handbuilding Course at The Clayrooms Loughborough is all about.

Designed for beginners, you'll learn traditional pinch, slab and coil techniques while creating a collection of beautiful homeware to use and enjoy every day.

Over five relaxed sessions, our tutors will guide you from your very first piece through to glazing and finishing, helping you build confidence with clay in a welcoming studio environment.

There's something really special about spending a whole day learning alongside other makers.

Last weekend our Ashbourne studio welcomed ceramic artist Kate Berry for a full-day pottery masterclass, giving everyone the opportunity to discover new techniques, ask questions and enjoy a day completely immersed in clay.

From demonstrations and shared ideas to plenty of encouragement throughout the day, it was a wonderful reminder that creativity grows best when people learn together.
A huge thank you to Kate for such an inspiring day, and to everyone who joined us.

We're already looking forward to welcoming Kate back for more masterclasses later this year.

Quite a lot.....if your child has a wonderfully wild imagination! And don't we just love that!!!

Join us at The Clayrooms Peak Studio in Peak Village, Rowsley, near Matlock for one of our favourite children's pottery workshops, where young makers aged 7 and over will hand-build their own quirky clay monster before adding all the funny faces, horns, spikes, teeth and silly details that make every creation completely unique.

There are no rules when it comes to monster making.
Some are cute.
Some are hilarious.
Some are wonderfully weird.
Our friendly tutors will guide everyone step by step, so no pottery experience is needed - just plenty of imagination.

This weeks featured maker is chosen from our Peak studio is Cathie H***e with this beautiful collection of handcrafted miniature ceramic vases.

It's a lovely example of how creativity develops over time. Using the same core techniques, Cathie has created a collection that feels both cohesive and completely individual, with subtle differences in form, glaze and finish bringing each piece to life.

One of the most rewarding parts of studio life is seeing members discover their own creative voice. Work like Cathie's reminds us that pottery isn't just about learning techniques, it's about developing confidence, experimenting and creating something that's uniquely yours.

What if your next day out looked a little different?

Recently, one lovely couple decided not to choose between wheel throwing and handbuilding...
They did both!

The day began with a morning on the pottery wheel, learning the satisfying art of throwing clay.
After a well-earned lunch together at Chatsworth Kitchen, they returned to the studio for an afternoon of handbuilding, discovering a completely different way to work with clay.

Two workshops.
One relaxed lunch.
A full day of creativity.

It got us thinking...
