At Pixels & Possibilities, we don’t just aim to give young people hands-on experience with industry-level hardware and software. We also want to give them real insight into the career opportunities that digital creativity can open up.

We were delighted to host our first Pathways Talk at Our Lady’s Primary School in Tullysaran with award-winning author and illustrator Ashwin Chacko.

Ashwin delivered an inspiring talk to the students who had taken part in our workshops earlier this year, sharing his personal journey and speaking openly about the determination it takes to overcome challenges and pursue your creative goals.

A huge thank you to the fantastic students who excelled throughout the project, the brilliant staff at Our Lady’s — especially Mr McCusker, who is a true champion for creativity in the classroom — and of course to Ashwin for helping inspire the next generation of young creatives.

The staff at Foley PS went above and beyond by printing every single piece of artwork created during our P4 digital art workshops and transforming it into a huge, vibrant wall display, and the results are just amazing.

Seeing the children’s digital illustrations brought into a physical space like this is incredibly powerful. It celebrates their creativity, builds confidence, and shows just how proud the school is of their pupils’ achievements.

From magical mushrooms to bright, joyful oranges, this display is a brilliant reminder of what young people can create when they’re given the right tools, encouragement, and space to explore their creativity.

Huge thanks to the staff at Foley PS for championing the children’s work so beautifully. This is what creative education is all about

We recently completed our Magical Mushroom digital art workshop with a brilliant P4 class, and the finished artworks are wonderful!

During the session, the pupils were introduced to digital illustration using iPads, Apple Pencils, and Procreate, learning how to:

• Work with layers
• Experiment with a variety of digital brushes
• Use colour confidently to create depth and atmosphere
• Move, duplicate, and refine their artwork
• Build a complete illustration step by step

For many of the children, this was their first experience with digital art software, yet they approached the workshop with huge enthusiasm, curiosity, and so much creativity.

The results are imaginative, colourful, and full of personality. Such an incredible achievement for such a young group.

Primary 7 Digital Art Workshop- Stage 2
Our Lady’s Primary School, Tullysaran

In the next stage of our workshop, the pupils built on the core skills they had already learned and created a series of beautiful, magical mushroom illustrations.

It was amazing to see them taking their first real steps into more advanced digital illustration techniques.

During this session, the children explored:

• Working confidently with layers
• Using a wide and diverse range of digital brushes
• Moving, duplicating, and transforming artwork
• Selection tools and Procreate’s snapping features
• Quick Shape tools for clean, controlled forms
• Advanced layer techniques such as Clipping Masks
• Saving and sharing their artwork
• Exporting time-lapse videos of their creative process
• Applying their illustrations to 3D product mock-ups

The results were exceptional. This was a fantastic group of pupils who began the programme with little to no previous experience in digital art or Procreate and yet they produced work full of imagination, confidence, and technical skill.

A brilliant example of what young people can achieve when given access to the right tools, guidance, and creative freedom.

What a great series of workshops with the amazing pupils of Our Lady’s PS in Tullysaran.

This workshop marked Part 1 of our digital art sessions, where the pupils dived into creating bold abstract compositions while learning the fundamentals of digital illustration on the iPad.

Using Procreate, the children were introduced to the Apple Pencil and learned key creative and technical skills, including:

• Creating custom canvases
• Navigating the Procreate interface
• Selecting and using brushes and erasers
• Colour selection and colour theory using the Harmony tool
• Adjusting brush size and opacity
• Using Hue, Saturation, and Brightness to make quick, effective changes to their artwork

As well as this we spoke about the kind of careers that exist with the digital art world.

It was fantastic to see the pupils experimenting, exploring colour, and building confidence with professional digital art tools from the very start. A brilliant first step in their creative journey.

Make sure to follow to see what they created next!

As always, a big thank you to the James Kane Foundation for making all these workshops possible
