It’s been a busy week since the making bespoke commissions including; a chef’s knife roll, a custom laptop case, an harmonica case, playing card case and notebook cover. Some easier than others but all a bit different to my ‘normal’ commissions and what Keene me challenged and learning every day! What’s the weirdest or most challenging commission you have been asked to make (for the makers out there!)?

Here’s a quick snap shot of the wonderful day I had on Saturday at the beautiful setting of in St Osyth, hosted by lovely Allison who cooked the most delicious lunch with pudding and cake 🍰 in the afternoon! I had a class of 10 fantastic students who made a notebook cover in the morning and then a wallet in the afternoon. Allison hosts a great selection of art and craft workshops in her converted cattle shed and has been doing so for over 25 years so she is well established. Check out the programme of classes online - I’ll definitely be back to teach again and maybe do a class myself!

A week ago today I was back at running two leather workshops with students after a brilliant visit last year.

In the morning, 16 Year 10 boys created their own hand-stitched wallets, and in the afternoon, 9 students made felt-lined trays — many adding embossed initials or shapes for a personal touch.

As much as I loved being back in the buzz of a school environment, it was equally lovely to return home to the calm of my quiet garden studio ✨

MMTM – FAQ
With any commissioned work for an artist or maker, there’s always a fair amount of back-and-forth to arrive at the final design and price. Every piece is unique — that’s the beauty of a commission — but it also means those conversations can be time-consuming and vary from customer to customer.

With my ‘jacket-to-bag’ projects in particular, I’m often asked the same initial questions: How much will it cost? and What style of bag can be made from my jacket?

To make the process easier (for both myself and my customers), I’ve put together a guide featuring previous projects, design options, and price indications. It helps give a clearer idea of what’s possible and makes those first steps a little simpler when considering transforming a jacket into a bag. This ultimately saves time and repetition for both parties and the final outcome can be realized relatively more quickly.
