The most difficult and time consuming part of making any item from raw rough sawn timber is the time it takes to sand it smooth to the same level before then being able to work the full board such as it's pictured here.
This is the extra extra large chopping board, a special request from a customer, I've already gone through 10 sanding discs at 40 grit and 2 sanding belts at 40 grit also, so that's almost £20 already without cost of timber, electric and labour.
Now it becomes easier as it's less work between each layer of sandpaper. Then several coats of oil to keep it in tip top condition.

This next project is a special order for another customer met at a Highland games earlier this summer.
This is also elm timber from Speyside Timbercraft in Carrbridge.
The section of timber is approx 4' x 2' and is approx 50mm thick.
This is going to become a very very very large chopping board.

If anyone would like something made, please get in touch to discuss.

Completed and just delivered a special commission table for a lovely customer. It is approx 36" long x 24" wide x 50mm thick, and leg height is 28" giving overall height of 30".
This table is to be used as her sewing table.
So the first pic is the completed table followed by the raw elm timber which was supplied by Speyside Timbercraft from Carrbridge, just a few miles along the road from us.
The following pics show the table from different angles.
If you would like something made for you, please get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Well that's that then.

Due at highlander track and show event today but hearing the wind and rain through the night we had our doubts.
Anyway, 4am, time to get up and on the road around 5.15am heading toward Golspie kart track and it was dry and little to no wind upon leaving so seemed promising.
Arrived at 6.45am just ahead of official 7am entry time, got in, first there, secured our spot, van behind to block off the wind with buildings on the other side so only 2 sides the wind could potentially catch us.
And catch us it did, completely anchored to ground screws, and to the van and over 60kg in weight to help hold it down but massive gust and lifted and shifted the gazebo so since nothing had been set up, we took down and packed up and home by 10am.
So now we will continue with working on our custom orders, and also make stock, we are at Tore Hall next Saturday so we will see you there.
