A couple of weeks ago I handed some new paintings in at The Studio :: Plockton. Here's a close-up of one featuring Morvich from the causeway. I wanted to capture that effect you see often in the Highlands where one hill can be basking in golden light while the hill right next to it looms dark in misty shadow.

They've recently completed some renovation work at The Studio, and it's now fully open and includes a fantastic cafe - a great place to dodge the showers if you're out for a wander.

ArTay begins today! This fantastic pop-up art show is only on until 7:30pm on Sunday in Perth (by the concert hall) and features a huge range of high quality artwork from over 100 of Scotland’s great artists. Here’s a close-up of one of the paintings I dropped off for it yesterday.

Had BBC Radio nan Gàidheal on last night and a record called ‘The Lights Of Loch Indaal’ came on - reminded me of a painting I did of the lighthouse there (at Port Charlotte, Islay). Funny because at the time I was driving home from Eduardo Alessandro Studios where that painting is currently hanging, along with a dozen or so others. Pop in for a look if you’re in Broughty Ferry - the gallery is packed with fantastic art.

Hot off the easel - the Atlantic Ocean crashing against the rocks of Orsay and Eilean Mhic Coinnich as seen by some Portnahaven cottages on Islay. I thoroughly enjoyed every second at this 70 x 50cm canvas, holding back on refinement to preserve the blustery windswept energy of the sketching phase.

I just finished this wee panorama of the bonny village of Shieldaig up in the northwest of Scotland. Really enjoyed playing with colour here, and rare to do a landscape without any sky. Can't wait to get it in a frame!

Big thanks to Innis & Gunn for bringing me on board for this project - a fantastic experience, and I'm very happy with the outcome! Also, I have to say the Islay Cask Beer really is excellent - one of my all-time favourites.

Yesterday I dropped a few paintings off in Perth for this year's ArTay exhibition, and this is one of them. The pop-up show begins today and runs through to Sunday evening, and is crammed with truly fantastic work from a huge range of artists. It's well worth a visit if you're in Perth this weekend. Peering down through the misty Bealach Na Bà towards Loch Kishorn and Achintraid. Hard to make out from the photo, but this canvas is a metre wide. Also pictured is my full palette range: 6 colours plus white. Rarely do I feel the need for anything more.
