NEWS: First Anstruther Children's Festival to take place
A brand new children's arts festival is taking place in the East Neuk this summer.
The Anstruther Children's Festival will showcase music, songs, storytelling and dance through local and Scottish artists. The family event will take place on Saturday 18th July from 9:30am-5pm at the Dreel Halls in Anstruther.
The single day festival has been organised by Teresa Fynn of Little Neuk Storytelling Centre and Jen White of Music with Jen Fife. It will feature artists and performers from across Scotland including Ceilidhkids from Edinburgh, providing a family ceilidh, and Dragon Song Productions, bringing interactive book reading. Also taking part will be Mrs Mash, a Scottish storyteller, as well as Teresa Fynn and Jen White running their popular Sensory Stories and Music with Jen sessions.
There will be ticketed entry for most activities but there will also be free elements including Bookbug, arts and crafts, and face painting alongside the paid-for entertainments. The festival has so far received funding and support from Murray Library Trust and Anstruther Improvements Association in order to keep the ticket prices as affordable as possible and make free opportunities available, making coming to the event accessible to all regardless of income.
Co-organiser Jen White said: "We created this festival as although there are many fantastic arts-based events in the East Neuk there is nothing aimed entirely at children. We can't wait to bring this new opportunity to take part in high quality arts activities to local families."
Teresa Fynn, co-organiser added: "We both are passionate about the importance of music, movement and literature in the lives of young children as they grow and develop, and about how these activities can bring families together. We want this event to be an exciting opportunity for the local community and we hope people will come along and make our first festival a success so we can bring more family events like this to the East Neuk in the future."
