Hampshire Wedding DJ, Master of Ceremonies Alan Marshall Celebrations, I understand the key to a great Wedding Reception is great entertainment & personalization. Your Love Story is the reason your family and friends are gathered together on this one day to celebrate your wedding. I believe that to create a truly memorable day you should share elements of your story so that everyone understands just how important those few special hours together really are.

Guest requests are not automatically good or bad.
Some couples love the idea of their friends and family shaping the night. Others want a more carefully planned soundtrack that keeps a particular feeling from start to finish.

Both can work.
The key is deciding before the evening begins.
That way, when someone asks for a song, I already know what matters most to you: open and spontaneous, carefully filtered, or gently kept within the sound you wanted.

Your wedding should sound like your people, without losing you.

A lovely review from Steve and Gemma after their wedding at The Beaulieu Inn.
This line really means a lot:
“Even when things didn’t quite go to plan, Alan was on it, so we could enjoy our day without even knowing.”

That is exactly how I want a wedding to feel for a couple. Not interrupted. Not worried. Not pulled into every small problem.

Just present, relaxed, and able to enjoy the people around them.
From the planning and speeches through to being Master of Ceremonies and DJ for the evening, it was a real pleasure to be part of their day.

Thank you, Steve and Gemma.

When you picture the dancing, don’t only picture your first dance.
Picture the ten minutes after it.

That is where the room takes its cue from you. If you stay close, bring a few favourite people in, and give the evening a confident start, the dancefloor feels warmer very quickly.

It does not need forced hype. It needs the right first few records, played at the right moment, with someone watching what your people actually respond to.
This is the part of the night I love: turning a nervous first step into a room that feels ready to celebrate with you.

This week’s Sunday Soul is Rufus featuring Chaka Khan – Sweet Thing.
Released in 1975, it’s a flawless blend of soul, funk, and pure vocal brilliance.

Chaka Khan’s performance is effortless yet deeply expressive — smooth, controlled, and full of feeling from the very first note.

What makes this record timeless is that balance of strength and vulnerability. The groove is rich and steady, but it’s the vocal that carries everything — intimate, honest, and completely captivating. A true slow-burn classic that never loses its impact.

Follow Sunday Soul each week for more 45s that showcase the voices and records that defined soul music. What’s your favourite Chaka Khan performance?

Before you add another detail to your wedding, ask:

What is this here to do?

Some additions are brilliant. A relaxed game, a personal introduction, a musical moment, or a quiet pause for you both can give the day more shape and character.

Others can quietly add pressure, cost or movement without improving the experience.

When I plan with a couple, I’m less interested in squeezing in more and more interested in whether each choice helps the day feel easy, personal and joined-up.

If it adds warmth, laughter, clarity or breathing space, it has earned its place.

If it only adds another moving part, it may not be needed.

Your wedding should not become a list of extras.

It should feel like you.

My Moments of Magic – Leanne: Food, Water, Calm – Fri, Jun 12
Some of the most important moments of a wedding day aren’t on the dance floor.
They’re the quiet human ones: making sure the couple have eaten, getting them a drink before they fade, noticing when someone needs help—without turning it into a “thing”.

Leanne said:
“Alan ensured that I had food and drinks whilst I was busy mingling with guests throughout the day.”

That’s what being looked after actually feels like. Practical care. Quiet support. The sort of attention that keeps the day enjoyable, not exhausting.

What I’ve learnt: – Looking after the couple means watching the basics. – Support is often practical, not dramatic. – When the couple feel cared for, the whole day softens.

Much love, Alan

Your wedding timeline may move.

That does not mean anything has gone wrong.
Speeches can run over. Photos can take longer. A room turnaround might need a little more time. Guests rarely move with military precision.

The key is to plan where the flexibility lies before the day arrives.

When I talk through a wedding with a couple, I am not only looking at the timings. I am looking at what should be protected, what can move, and who needs to know if something shifts.
That way, you are not pulled into decisions when you should be enjoying the room.
A calm plan gives your day space to breathe.

This week’s Sunday Soul is Lamont Dozier – Why Can’t We Be Lovers.
Released in 1973, it’s a beautifully smooth slice of soul from one of the great architects of the Motown sound. Stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist, Dozier delivers a groove that’s warm, laid-back, and effortlessly soulful.

There’s a calm confidence to this track — rich instrumentation, a steady rhythm, and a vocal that feels both relaxed and deeply expressive. It’s a record that doesn’t need to push; it simply settles into its groove and lets the feeling speak for itself.

Follow Sunday Soul each week for more 45s that bring timeless soul, groove, and feeling into your Sunday. What’s your favourite Lamont Dozier track?

Before the details take over, try choosing three words for your wedding.
Not colours. Not a theme. The feeling.
Relaxed, joyful and family-led.Elegant, warm and full.Intimate, fun and unhurried.

Those words become a simple filter for the choices ahead. Timings, music, speeches, photos, room layout and the evening flow all become easier when you know what the day is meant to feel like.

The best weddings are not built by adding more and more. They are shaped by making decisions that belong.

If you are planning your wedding, send me a message and tell me your three words. And if someone you know is getting married, please share this with them.
