Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi,
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri;
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mâd,

This land of my fathers is dear to me,

Not gigging. It’s 💩, to say the least. It’s not a case of being lucky to enjoy your job. Every working musician has grafted and continues to graft to stay gigging. I’ve heard people say they’ve enjoyed being off work, can’t say I relate in any which way or form. Performing is part of me, cheesy as it sounds but it’s where I’ve built my strength, confidence, passion and so much more. It’s art. It’s breathing. It is missed deeply by performers and artists and it needs to come back.

Staying focused on music and performing when in school made me a better student in every subject. It’s essential for children and adults. If spoons can open, so should music venues. It’s more than a Spotify escape, it’s a career, it’s a passion, it’s a skill, it’s a different language, it’s spiritual, it’s learning,
👏🏼 IT 👏🏼 IS 👏🏼 ESSENTIAL 👏🏼

DISCLAIMER: I love spoons but come on 👀🤷🏼‍♀️🎶

The music industry. It’s a beautiful place to belong to, such colourful & wonderful people belong to this line of work I am chuffed to be a part of it. But my god it isn’t an easy place to work. Even making a living from it can be an absolute graft. I remember my first year out of uni, I was working in Starbucks and starting at 5:30am in the shop meaning I was up at 4:30. I was singing pretty frequently at Casablancas in Brighton at the time and that gig ended around 3am, by the time I got home I often had 10-35 mins sleep before going to a 9 hour work day. Thankfully I was at coffee bean heaven but still. And I have a hundred of stories like this, from the age of 15-22 really 😂 lots of them are pretty ridik and some of my favourite memories in retrospect. And don’t get me wrong, zero complaints, I said yes to these gigs and jobs but I had to say yes if I wanted to make the connections and gain the network of musicians I have now.

It’s tragic that so many grass roots venues have either closed or on the brink of closing due to the pandemic and they/we deserve at very least guidance and a formal plan moving forward.

I make 80-90% of my income from gigging, and don’t have a gig on the books yet this year. ‘It’ll come back, it’ll be ok’ is fair to say if the industry and venues in particular, get more help through this pandemic. Because if they don’t, there won’t be many venues left leading to less musicians returning to their industry, resulting in less live music uk wide.

She's back, she being me, Hiiii. I love this song, pure good vibes. Little bit o'TLC for ya x

This is a little cover of TLC's, No Scrub. It was so hard not to dace like mad while singing this song but I had to keep my cool as my mic is super sensitive...
