This time last week, students on our backstage theatre course went on a tour of the Elgiva Theatre in Chesham with one of their technicians, former Amersham student, Ryley.

They had the chance to look at the unique technical features of the venue and some insight into what Ryley does as an apprentice. As part of the tour, they saw the technical setup in the wings, the dressing rooms, cinema system and were able to have a go at securing the h**p in a dead position on the stage left wing.

Thanks to everyone who was involved in making this trip a success!

Hi guys, welcome to 2022 with the Theatre on the Hill! I’m Amie from the work experience team at TOTH and writing to you for a catch up on the winter season with the performing arts department. Been a long time hasn’t it? Sorry about that, we’ve had a busy season both backstage, performing and the like. But we’re back now, with loads to come. However don’t worry about that for now, let’s see what the performing arts department has been up to…

The second year acting students performed ‘The Greatest Depths’ which was a two act show, half ‘The Lower Depths’ and half ‘The Greatest Gift’. With a journey into Russia 1902 then moving forward to America 1943, the performance was brought to life by director Irene Rambota.

We then saw ‘The Winter Showcase’ on stage by the performing arts department: a combination of musical numbers, dance pieces, acting segments, and singing, all tied together by the MCs. With the creative team of the TOTH leading the production, it was a fantastic way to celebrate the talent of the students.

Ending the year with a bang, we had the Level 2 performing arts students perform ‘The Christmas Crisis’. It was a high spirited production directed by Zara Milton with lots of fun and some badly behaved reindeers…

And that’s a wrap on the festivities with Theatre on the Hill for 2021! We hope that you managed to join us, and if not, don’t worry, as there’s plenty more in the upcoming year. Stay tuned for that!

Wishing you all a wonderful new year, stay safe, and we hope to see you all again in our theatre soon!

Wow - what a night!

We are so grateful to The Company CA MA for giving our students and members of the public an amazing insight into contemporary dance and womanhood, and would like to thank the team for being lovely guests in our theatre and producing an amazing performance with only one run through in the space!

Feedback from our students:
"They validated how we felt as women" ❤️
"Beautiful fluid, expressive movements, which presented a range of emotions"
"It was amazing how they could communicate purely through movement"

We can't wait for some of the team to come back in today for a workshop and see what amazing things our students will achieve from working with them!

If you haven't done already, visit The Company's website and check out last night's programme here: www.thecompanyca.co.uk 👇

Just as the number 8 represents infinity, the woman represents eternal life. Curved are the edges of the female form representing her softness, outer-casing her resilient and whole, internal world.

The 8ᵗʰ is an amalgamation of the lived experiences our all-female company has formulated to express ‘what it means to be a woman’ to them.

The performance consists of three diverse dance pieces, exploring vulnerability, sisterhood and togetherness. The aim of the production is to challenge outdated perceptions of womanhood and encourage the audience to engage in conversations that promote change. The desired outcome for the piece is that audiences leave feeling seen, heard and celebrated and empowered to use their voices, be it women or allies.

We are all in this together and together we can be the change.

FOOTLOOSE

Second up in the Theatre we had our FdA and 2nd year Musical Theatre students' production of Footloose, directed by Jo Roots, musical director Ashley Turner and assisted by Rhiannon Hopkins, Alice Chilver and Helen Charalambous.

What a show! Expertly overseen by our Level 3 Backstage Theatre students, this musical came to life at the Theatre on the Hill, with socially distanced cabaret seating to reflect the american diner staging!

This sell-out musical was a wonderful testament to all of the students' hard work during their time at the college. We can't wait to see them fly as they leave college and pursue their careers - good luck everyone!

THE COMPANY 2021

Our Level 3 Dance students produced an outstanding show, having learnt the routines mainly over Zoom, with fantastic costumes and lighting.

Choreography by Helen Charalambous, Jo Roots, Johnny Schwerzmann and the students themselves
Technical Support from Paul Batten and the Level 3 Backstage Theatre students.

We are so proud of our dancers, what an amazing result after a tough year! We wish all our 2nd year students the best of luck as they continue their studies elsewhere or have a gap year, and can't wait to welcome our first years into second year in September!

Well, it's been a long time coming but Theatre on the Hill is back!

Our Level 3 Dance, Musical Theatre, Acting and Level 1+2 Performing Arts courses all produced amazing shows to end the academic year, and this week we will be sharing some of their production photos with you all.

Moving forward, we hope to be able to re-open our doors to the general public with our winter season later this year! We can't wait to see some friendly faces in our audiences again!

In the meantime, if there's anything else you'd like to see on this page, do get in touch with us so we can make sure we keep our socials alive and interesting to you all 😀

Stay safe, and catch up soon!
