And so we arrive at the end of another fantastic week on tour.
A huge thanks to the 360+ people who came along to The Dovecote Centre in Amble, Etal and The Alnwick Playhouse to watch the show this week.
You’ve got one more week to catch the show before Holmes and Watson have a well deserved rest (and attempt to wash the Brylcreem out of their hair!).

It’s been a great start to our re-tour of Sherlock Holmes and the Sting of the Scorpion so far.
A big thank you to Bishop Auckland Town Hall, Queen’s Hall Hexham, Rennington Village Hall and Longframlington Memorial Hall for having us, and thank you to our audiences for such overwhelmingly positive feedback.

“Saw this in Hexham on Thursday - it was excellent! The cast were fabulous, the staging was inspired and the play was great fun. So good to see great live theatre in a local setting. Thank you!“

Catch us this week in Amble, Etal and a two show day at The Alnwick Playhouse this weekend!

Next up for our monthly cinema club is “The Choral”
The Choral (2025) is a British historical drama directed by Nicholas Hytner and written by Alan Bennett, centered on a Yorkshire town’s choral society striving to perform Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius in 1916. As local men leave for World War I, the demanding Dr. Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes) leads a new choir of teenagers, finding hope and community through music.
Friday May 29th.

Seeing as it’s Shakespeare’s birthday this week, we thought tomorrow might be a good time to show “Hamnet” - Directed by Chloé Zhao, Hamnet (2025) is a devastatingly poignant historical drama focused on Agnes (Jessie Buckley) and her husband William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) navigating immense grief following their young son’s death. Critics describe it as a beautifully shot, sensory experience that examines how art (specifically the play Hamlet) arises from loss.

Check out this fab event taking place at The Dovecote Centre next month.
A stunning solo guitar album exploring the beauty in busyness.
Calm and Chaos is packed with impressionistic colours, turbulent rhythms and shifting textures that transport the listener from euphoric highs to moments of pure tranquillity.
Sonically, the album gives hints of contemporary classical, impressionism, jazz, folk, metal and flamenco; with the catalyst being the exquisite sound of the classical guitar.
“These are my experiences in sound,” says Jacob Harrison. “It is a patchwork of all my influences, musical and otherwise, that combine and miniaturise into musical vignettes.”
Jacob is a Leeds based musician whose career rotates around composing for the guitar and performing its core repertoire. Described as “Leeds’s local virtuoso” he has sold out local venues regularly for the past 2 years. He also composes for film and theatre with a notable example being his chilling work for Frankenstein and The Body Snatcher, two plays produced by Northumberland Theatre Company. Jacob also regularly performs flamenco shows and with his Brazilian jazz trio, Pitanga Band UK.
Calm and Chaos is Jacob Harrison’s first studio album and is accompanied by two stunning music videos for the album’s singles; Meteor Shower – an intense, technical masterclass that bursts with ecstatic colour, and Denis – a stunning requiem written in memory of his late grandfather.
The album was produced by the immensely talented Jesse Cutts. The attention to every fine detail within the sound brings out all of the naturalistic qualities in the playing, highlighting the internal complexities. Field recordings and samples are used to blend the colours together, creating pathways between the impressionistic scenes.
The album is available on all streaming platforms with the music videos being available on Jacob’s YouTube channel – Jacob Harrison – guitarist.

ALEX FERGUSON

All of us here at NTC are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Playwright Alex Ferguson, an acclaimed writer and a much-respected figure in Northeast theatre.

Alex was a national award-winning writer and his work spanned radio, theatre, television and film, including the BBC Radio 4 series 'My Uncle Freddie'.

Alex had a long standing relationship with NTC and we loved performing his shows.
In 2019 we toured “The Stars Look Down” and audiences were left in tears at the strength of his writing and his ability to weave a compelling narrative.

Over the years NTC and Alex worked on many shows together and we had the privilege of being able to produce “My Uncle Freddie”, “The Old Man and the Angel”, “The Flag” and of course, “The Stars Look Down” on two separate occasions.

Alex leaves behind an extraordinary creative legacy and will be greatly missed.

“He was Wor Lecky”

Safe travels Alex
