After an amazing week of thrills and spills in our second Alyth Haunted Scarecrow Trail, we can reveal the three winning scarecrows in this year’s event! 🥁 drrrrrummmmmmmroll…….
👻

In First place we have Thrifty One for their stunning The Rowan Fox.
The judges felt the theme evoked an autumnal scene, the lighting and layout were very effective and it was like a painted tableau or narrative that told a story they wanted to hear. Fox was such a strong visual and we noted the many elements had been used artfully.

In Second place we have ‘Scarily Lottie’ created by Ellie and it can be
seen at 39 Parkside Road.
The judges feedback ~The Scarecrow has an impish energy and had quite a presence. Lots of detail and elements entwined in an arrangement that had the look of a floral arrangement. Nature effigy with fairy energy. Contemporary styling and enjoyable to explore.

In Third place we have the grim reaper doing some pretty spooky gardening which can be seen at ‘Sylvan’ on Bamff Road between Kirk Brae & Wylie’s Brae as you head out past Alyth Parish Church.
The judges felt this installation benefited from its road side location and had a ‘we’ve been caught in the act’ element which gave the judges a scare and a giggle.

👻

In addition to the three winning Scarecrows the judges felt the standard was so high that they wanted to introduce an additional ‘Highly Commended’ category. They chose three other creations they felt deserved recognition. The first is The Handmaid’s Tale scarecrow sitting on a windowsill above the chemist on Airlie Street. The second is Feed Me, located at the Boar War Memorial garden area in the town centre, and the third highly commended scarecrow is located on the corner of Chapel St and Toutie St and she is called Ms Mycelium.

BIG CONGRATULATIONS!!! 👻🤩 🦊🍄🎉💀🌱🥇🥈🥉🙌 to all the winners and well done to everyone who took part and helped once again to put Alyth on the map this Halloween!
Pics below and I’ll be in touch with prize winners to arrange delivery of their WINNING goodies!!!

This year we had three independent judges walk the trail and shortlist their favourites, as well as looking at feedback and opinions on social media. Taking in to account originality, scare factor, imagination, kerb appeal and visual impact, decisions had to be made which wasn’t an easy task!

There are three prizes up for grabs.
We have a magnificent golden scarecrow trophy which is presented to the winner along with a £100 cash prize along with second and third prizes of an afternoon tea for four at Alyth cafe The Singing Kettle and a supply of local free range eggs from We Major Eggs!

This year we will ALSO have three Highly commended prize winners!
Winners announced at 7pm this evening 👻😱🎃
