Deep Blue, My new wheel-thrown stoneware vessel series.

The start of my new series. Each piece does not ask to be admired through elaborate decoration or complex surface pattern; instead, they invite a slower kind of looking. Their language is one of form, balance, and colour—a conversation between simplicity and presence.

Each piece has been wheel-thrown in stoneware, each piece is unique and each form deeply considered.

The vivid blue, a carefully mixed color evokes the sea and sky. It is a colour that speaks of depth and light, of Mediterranean horizons where water dissolves into air. Applied as a single, uninterrupted field of colour, the blue allows the sculptural qualities of each form to take centre stage.

Each unique piece exists comfortably as contemporary ceramic sculpture, offering moments of stillness within a space. Whether displayed individually or grouped together, they create a dialogue of volume, scale, and negative space, encouraging the eye to wander between rounded silhouettes and the quiet intervals that separate them.

My recent new works are moving towards a deep appreciation for restraint. Rather than adding, I refines. Rather than embellishing, I distil. The result I now focus on is a collection that celebrates the timeless relationship between earth, water, and fire, transformed into forms that feel both ancient and unmistakably contemporary.

My motto for myself, new adventure in surface design. Does the shape work, smooth within, yet enough edges, some uniformity, and some chaos, engobes and color tests, so they work, do they hold together, will the piece survive drying, twice firing, 1222 Deg C, will the legs hold and enable the vessel to stand proud?
