🎶 Tim Dalling at Alston Live 2026 🎶

We're excited to introduce Ayrshire singer-songwriter, accordion virtuoso, and master entertainer Tim Dalling, who will be performing on Saturday at this year's festival!

Originally gaining attention as the kilted, accordion-playing spark in the much-loved Old Rope String Band and later The New Rope String Band, Tim Dalling blends folk music, theatre, humour, and enchanting storytelling into memorable performances. As a solo artist, he has performed at major UK festivals, toured theatre-style shows, and has supported acts such as The Unthanks on tour. Tim has been ranked by critics alongside the likes of Randy Newman and Ivor Cutler; from this, he went on to create the Ivor Cutler Tribute Show.

Kris Drever described Tim's performance at Lau Land as "breathtaking," naming it "unique exhilarating brilliance." His album 'Blossom' (recorded with guitarist Ian Carr and bassist Neil Harland) was included in a Top Ten album pick for the national press, and R2 Magazine's review of 'Eve’s Bonie Squad' saw him named "a genius." Magazine as a "sincere and unpretentious troubadour holding his songs to the light," Sam's commanding songwriting has already seen him support folk-punk icon Frank Turner at Newcastle's NX, and perform at various notable venues including The White Room and The Hive at Nenthead.

However, the magic multiplies when he shares the stage with the phenomenally talented singer and songwriter, Emma Robson. We're thrilled to welcome Cian Downing back to Alston Live 2026! 🎶

Hailing from North London, Cian has spent the last few years making waves on the British guitar music scene with his infectious energy and refreshing melodic songwriting in the style of Billy Bragg, Paul Weller, and The Specials.

Since taking to the Alston Live stage, Cian has continued his rise as one of the UK's most exciting independent artists, releasing music through his own label, Loft End Records. In 2025, he embarked on his first UK tour alongside his four-piece backing band and released his debut album, The Grassroots to the Sky, a unique blend of mod, indie, and ska music.

🎶 Introducing AJ Potter and the NE Rails 🎶
Performing on Saturday at Alston Live 2026!

Hailing from the North East, this fantastic six-piece folk rock and skiffle band brings a raw, high-energy storytelling edge that is guaranteed to impress! Fronted by singer-songwriter AJ Potter, the group blends elements of blues, folk, country, and bluegrass. Named after The Station East, a pub and creative hub in Gateshead where they found their original rehearsal space, the band also features Ant on percussion, James on bass, Mellowz Demoz on keys, Mick on mandolin/lead guitar, and Darren on lead guitar.

AJ Potter's songwriting leans into honest, personal reflection, drawing lyrical inspiration from real life experiences - including childhood, parenthood, construction site work, addiction and sobriety. Having built a dedicated local following across grassroots music hubs in the region, such as The White Room, and featuring on BBC Introducing, AJ Potter & The NE Rails' performance promises emotion, incredible musicianship, and plenty of atmosphere!
