Thank you for such a lovely write up from our Edinburgh shows and for taking wonderful photos of our show ✨

🎶 What's it all about then eh? 🎶

Step behind the counter with Milk On The Side: A Barista Musical, a funny, relatable comedy about working in the hospitality industry.
You are the café customers in this interactive comedy musical, where baristas Amy and Casey will take your orders and clean your tables as they serve up songs, laughs, and promise you coffee, all whilst asking the big questions about low-skilled labour, smashed avocados, and what to do when you meet celebrity customers.
Brimming with catchy tunes, this ‘unique musical experience’ (Broadway World) will have you laughing, singing along, and reflecting on how we can all find our way in the world of work, one cup of coffee at a time.

We made it!!!!

There was a moment there where we nearly didn't and when we made our plea to you all, the number of supporters doubled in a day!

We genuinely cannot express in words how phenomenally grateful we are to you all for donating or sharing or even just liking our posts about it.

Thanks to you all, we are bringing this show in with everything we dreamed of for it and fully in budget! An incredible feat for a new show for a new company.

We love you all.

We've passed our funding goal!!!!!!

We are so phenomenally grateful to everyone who has donated for believing in our show, thank you so much!!!!!!!

However, we need a minimum of 25 individual supporters in order to receive the match funding from Creative Scotland. So, this is our plea:

Even if it's just £5

Even if it's just £1

Please consider giving to our Crowdfunder campaign. We need 9 more kind people to give even the smallest amount for us to receive the full match funding from Creative Scotland.

Thank you so much and we hope you all can come and see our show :)

After our very successful run at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival, Short and Sweet Theatre are looking for a strong singer and actor for our two week run at the Edinburgh Fringe (11/08 – 24/08). Ideally based in Glasgow for rehearsal purposes, we're looking for someone who understands the customer facing experience and is willing to join us in exorcising those retail demons on stage!

The Role:
An arts graduate who picked up a part time job in a cafe that they're now working in full-time 8 years later. Sarcastic and cynical on the outside but inside they actually enjoy the steady, low-stakes of their work and find it secretly satisfying. Their barista job to them is just a means to fund the life they actually care about after clocking out.
Gender: any
Ethnicity: any
Age: 20's/30's
Vocal Range: any (It's original music so we can adjust it)

Auditions to take place Sunday 18th of May with additional taking place the evening of Monday 19th if required

This is a profit share production. We have some funding in place which will pay for transport to and from Edinburgh for the duration of the run as well as any costumes/props required.

Rehearsal expectation is 2 rehearsals a week for 12 weeks (a 2 hour weekday evening and a 4 hour Sunday daytime rehearsal) starting the week beginning Monday 19th May. Rehearsals to take place in Glasgow

During the festival you will be asked to help with flyering, however, this will be at agreed times and for between 10mins and 1 hour total on any given day.

If interested in the role, please send a video of you singing a pop or musical theatre song to [email protected]

MEET THE TEAM: Chris Honey

Chris is a Glasgow born, autistic theatre maker with experience in physical theate, musicals and hard hitting drama. He enjoys either making fun and relatable shows or grand spectacles! (maybe a little something in between). Chris also likes reading, long bike rides and hates talking about himself.

Chris has worked as a director and movement director with Scottish Opera, Bard in the Botanics and Some Kind of Theatre as well as being a regular guest director for Stage2Page in Glasgow. He has also produced and directed a number of pieces of new writing and is a joint artistic director of Short and Sweet Theatre.

Chris is directing our new comedy musical Milk On The Side: A Barista Musical!

Our first performance at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival was last year at Tennent’s Laughter Lounge - we performed to a full house! 2024 was a wonderful year for us as a company and we're even more excited about what we have planned coming up.
