The Broom Swim School is an indoor, bespoke, ASA registered swim school based in the private gardens of The Grange in the village of Broom, Warwickshire.

The Broom Swim School site is closed, however we are now operating “On Tour”, with BABY – TODDLER – PRE SCHOOL and AFTER SCHOOL lessons being offered at multiple other local pools! Established in 1986 by Sallie Walters and Gillian Burden, Broom was one of the first private swim schools in the country, and 31 years on is still a thriving hub within the community. og cabin, the pool is 11m x 5m, and 1.2m deep all over. The water temp is 31.5 and air temp 33.5 C. Plentiful and free car parking. No membership fees. Broom Swim School prides itself on offering a personalised service to each and everyone of their swimmers - whether tiny babies, or up to the eldest customer, currently 100 years old! We are dedicated to the safe and professional teaching of babes, toddlers, children and adults, we run a variety of classes to suit all aquatic needs:

SWIMMING LESSONS:
- 9:00am-10:00pm Monday to Friday, and 9.00am-6pm Saturday (closed Sundays).
- A max of two adults or four children are taught at any one time.
- Half hour lessons.
- Lessons are geared for all standards, from total beginner to competitive levels.
- We follow the ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming Stages 1-7, then the Broom Challenge, followed by Bronze, Silver and Gold Challenge Awards.
- The minimum age for private lessons is approx. 3 years and there is no maximum age.
- Young children can aim for the ASA Duckling Awards, and we have Swimfit Awards for Adults too!
- We cater for Cerebral Palsy, Autistic and Downs Syndrome clients, and welcome others with similar special needs. BABY & TODDLER CLASSES:
- Structured adult participation sessions to introduce young children to water.
- Classes run in the mornings on Monday - Friday dependent on age group. PRE-SCHOOL LESSONS:
- Aimed at 3 and 4 year olds.
- The year before a child starts full time school is a fantastic opportunity to teach swimming and basic water safety skills. AQUA-FIT CLASSES:
- Half hour classes in chest-deep water to music, Friday AM
- Great fun, very friendly water-workout suitable for swimmers and non-swimmers. LEISURE SWIMS:
- Early morning, ad-hoc day time, and late evening.
- Private use of the pool, toys/floats/ fitness equipment for half an hour (or an hour during the school holidays). WHO TEACHES?
- Our staff are ALL fully qualified through the ASA / Swim England and hold a valid Level 2 ASA/RLSS Rescue Test certificate.
- We do not employ partly qualified staff.

🏊Why starting swimming before school makes all the difference!

Every year, we're reminded just how valuable those early years in the pool really are.

During 2025–2026, we taught 20 Reception children (aged 4–5 years), and the results speak for themselves...

👶100% had started swimming with us before school - either in our Pre-School classes (3-4 years) or even earlier as Babies and Toddlers.

Because they had built their confidence and skills over several years:

🏊80% achieved Swim England Stage 3 (swimming independently without buoyancy aids). Every swimmer made fantastic progress through the Swim England Learn to Swim Pathway, achieving Stage 2, Stage 3 or working towards Stage 4.

🏅100% achieved a distance badge, from the iconic first distance badge of 5m, to some swimming an incredible 100m!

🛟100% completed Water Safety sessions, practising essential life-saving skills in everyday clothes and buoyancy jackets to prepare them for real-life situations around water.

Children learn essential water safety and swimming skills, including:
🏊‍♀️ Entering and exiting the pool safely
💧 Building water confidence
⭐ Floating and submerging
🌊 Moving independently through the water
🛟 Understanding how to stay safe around water

But swimming lessons at this age offer so much more than physical development. They also help children to:
✔️ Listen and follow instructions
✔️ Take turns and share space
✔️ Respond to routine and structure
✔️ Build independence
✔️ Grow in confidence away from their parent or carer

These are all important school-readiness skills that help make the transition into the classroom smoother and more positive. Learning to be part of a group, listen to a teacher, and persevere through challenges are valuable life skills.

This is such a special stage in your child's life - the year (or sometimes two, depending on their birthday) before they start full-time school. Our pre-school swimming lessons are designed to support not only your child's swimming journey, but also their confidence, independence, and readiness for school.

During these lessons, parents and carers can either start in the water to assist their child (depending on their level of swimming experience) or to sit poolside while our teacher works directly with the children in the water.

Lessons follow the official Swim England Learn to Swim Pathway, starting with Duckling 1, providing a safe, fun, and structured introduction to swimming.

We teach this age group using "bobbin" floatation jackets, which provide buoyancy and support while allowing children to develop their own movement, balance, and floating skills - without needing to be held constantly.

At Broom Swim School, our goal is simple: to ensure every child starts school safe, confident, and prepared - because swimming isn't just a skill...it's a life skill.
