We’re incredibly lucky as a community to have such an amazing team of ladies driving WACDC, the work they’ve done the past few months has been mammoth, them and the crew who have worked tirelessly doing groundwork’s, building, electrics, fitting and all rest have done such a fantastic job.

📢 WACDC Community Update – Town Hall Highlights
WACDC recently held another town hall to share the latest updates with the community.
If you couldn’t make it, here are the key points:
✅ AEL will lease the land to WACDC, and the shop building will be owned by the community company on behalf of us all.
✅ A preferred candidate has been identified to run the shop and service station (subject to final interview stage and checks). They bring strong rural food retail experience and showed real passion for supporting both locals and visitors.
✅ Once everything is confirmed, the shop and service station will be leased for an initial 5-year period.
✅ Temporary accommodation has been arranged for the candidate and their family until they can secure a permanent home in the area.
✅ Discussions are already underway with Nisa (Co-op) to supply the shop.
✅ The future shopkeeper will also manage and operate the fuel tanks.
✅ Huge thank you to everyone who attended yesterday for the drone fly over – video editing underway and will be released at the end of June.

This Wednesday is market day and the WACDC invites you to meet outside the community centre at 10:45, just before the market starts. They’ve been shortlisted for an award (and we want to make sure they win!) Jez is doing a drone shot of everyone waving so please come down and show your support!

A wave and a smile 😊 🙌 Last week, WACDC, on behalf of the Kilchoan Village Shop and Fuel Station, announced that we are finalists for the Team Spirit Award, kindly sponsored by , in the UK and Rural Community Business Awards 2026.
We need the community’s help now to get a short video down to London for the awards. Jez has kindly offered to do the drone filming 🤩 for the shot, and don’t worry — there won’t be any close-ups. This is going to be a crowd waving at the camera: the people who have backed the project from the start… YOU!! This will be followed by some scenic shots of the most beautiful coast in the world… not that we are bragging.

• 🛻 Meet in the Community Centre car park — just before the doors open for the Kilchoan Market at 11 am
• 👋 Five minutes of filming and waving is all we need before you go to buy some crafts or produce.

Absolutely amazing news from the WACDC, the folk behind the scenes and the hands doing the work are doing an incredible job seeing the new village shop become a reality

🎉 Exciting news for Kilchoan!

We are thrilled to announce that our project has received a £200,000 award from SSE’s Highland Sustainable Development Fund!

This incredible support will fund the development of a new shop, fuel station, and EV charging hub. As many of you know, our village lost its only shop last year. Since then, the community has been working tirelessly to bring it back, and this funding will finally help us restore these vital local services.
This is going to make a real difference to our remote rural area. A massive thank you to for backing our community! 💚

We do live in an amazing community, thank you to the people in front and behind the scenes driving this project who are working so SO hard, look what they’ve achieved!

One month on: Your support in action 🙌

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and this one certainly shows the incredible progress we’ve made together.

It has been a challenging time since we lost our local shop and fuel services in October last year, but seeing this building stand tall gives us all a reason to be proud. West Ardnamurchan Community Development Company is thrilled to share this update with everyone who has cheered us on.

Right now, our focus is shifting toward the "heart" of the project: the people. We are currently working on the leasing process to find an operator who will provide the sustainable, local service our village deserves.
