Haworth Art Gallery and Museum: How we get to work 🚘

My journey to work although a short one is done by car. Having a disability means that I can no longer walk through the beautiful grounds of Haworth Art Gallery to reach my place of work. It used to give me great joy looking at all the trees, plants, and flowers, and listening to the various birds.
There is no problem with parking the car at the Gallery. There are three dedicated blue badge parking bays. These are large enough for wheelchair access and are conveniently situated near the side entrance to the house. This entrance gives level access to the house as does the main front entrance.
So, although I don’t walk through Haworth park anymore I can still enjoy the grounds and the building itself.

Haworth Art Gallery and Museum: How we get to work 🚌

I often make my journey to work by bus and enjoy having a chat with my bus-stop buddies! It also means that I can admire the beautiful gardens on the walk from the bus stop to the gallery.
Two services run past the gallery – the 464 (Accrington – Rochdale) and the x41 (Accrington to Manchester). If you want to avoid the steep hill, make sure you get off at Laund Road/Newton Drive and follow the brown sign along Newton Drive!

Haworth Art Gallery and Museum: Picnic in Haworth Park 🧺🌳

If you stroll in the grounds there are lots of spots to take in the view or sit and enjoy a picnic. There is the beautifully carved bench as well as picnic tables at the front of the house. The picnic benches have chess and draughts boards on them - ask at reception for the pieces and enjoy a game in the fresh air with a brew.
Alternatively, enjoy the roses in the rose garden, relax with a book and have a quiet moment.

Temporary Exhibition – Staff Pick
Our curator Alison has chosen Rise Up, textile banner, James Fox, from the Weavers Uprising Bicentennial Committee Exhibition.
My favourite object in this exhibition is James Fox’s beautiful banner commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Weavers’ Uprising. I love the use of the floral fabric for the exhortation to Rise Up! It contrasts beautifully with the tough image of the hammers. It sits within the long tradition of trade union, political, and protest banners, using symbols to highlight a particular trade or message. What do you think the symbols on this banner represent?
