Introducing sonADA's most ambitious project yet:

PARALLAX-VIEW

We have been connecting with artists in Aberdeen, Istanbul, Seoul, and Berlin to kick-start an international collaboration network.

We had our first workshop on Thursday where we focused on getting to know each other a little better.

🙋‍♀️ Bea Dawkins volunteered at our pilot event back in 2015 and joined the committee shortly after.

🎵 She was appointed as the Hospitality and Marketing manager for sonADA 2016 and went on to organise events and activities of her own.

🎉 She now has a career in community project management as well as being a research assistant at Aberdeen University all thanks to the experience she gained by joining sonADA!

👋 Meet the Artists! Lise Olsen

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Lise Olsen is a Scottish-based artist who works in-between a sphere of space and the sonic.

🔎 She aspires to uncover the traces of what’s hidden using stories, sounds, and images.

👫 Her art practice facilitates community projects, soundwalking events, and creating immersive sound compositions.

🌳 She aims to create a platform to encourage people to think about our connection to place, nature, and society.

🎧 I am a composer and sound artist at sonADA.

🗣 In 2021, we at sonADA are commissioning five sound projects that examine our experience of the pandemic, and I will be working with Imogene Newland to explore the sound of breath.

👋 Meet the Artists! Mark Dunsmore

🎶 I am an Aberdeen based creator of various media with interests in music, sound art, film, and live performance.

🗺 I love to genre hop and seek inspiration from as many places as possible.

🥛 SonADA will be supporting me as I create an audio-visual piece called “Almost Half”.

👩‍👩‍👧‍👦 The piece is based on human movements and the uncomfortable feeling of over-presence when in places with too many people.

↔️ The piece is named after the reports that almost half of people preferred social distancing measures during lockdown.

MEET OUR ARTISTS! Pete Stollery

🎧 Pete Stollery is a composer and sound artist based in NE Scotland.

🔎 He thinks that we should be just as picky about what we listen to as we are about what we look at.

🏙 I will be running workshops for people in Aberdeen who are interested in how sound changed in the city over lockdown and what differences there were from before and how after this strange period in our lives.

🗺 We will make recordings which will go onto a sound map and I will create new piece of sound art using the sounds recorded during the project.

Meet our Artists: Imogene Newland

🤸🏼‍♀️ I am a performance maker with an interest in the relationship between sound and the body.

🏡 I have lived in Aberdeen since 2015.

🎤 With the support of sonADA, I am embarking on a new collaboration with sound artist Suk-Jun Kim exploring the themes of isolation and human breath.

🎬 The resulting film will be available in late 2022.

Meet our artists: Bea Dawkins

👩🏻‍💻 I’ve been a sound artist living and working in Aberdeen for almost a decade.

🎤 I greatly enjoy variety and always try to experiment with new ways of creating art from sound.

💽 Thanks to the support of sonADA, I will be premiering my first solo album, Phases, which has been composed during lockdown.

💃 The album explores a variety of personal themes and could be considered “danceable” in comparison to previous works of mine.

👉 Introducing "Under The Skin: artistic inquiries into port-pandemic identities"

🌏 Under the Skin is a practice-based research project by sonADA that aims to explore the question of ‘Who We Are’ amid the global health and well-being crisis since early 2020.
