Day 4 of TechFest 2026, we’ve returned to RGU for the remainder of the week as we continue our Wonderful Rainforest workshop.
One of the animals used during this workshop is Keekee the Sugar Glider, I’ve been keeping Sugar gliders for around 15 years now & learned they are very mischievous creatures, experts at stealth missions, if you don’t have the correct enclosure they can escape easily, I went months without knowing the gliders were escaping every night & raiding the food stores & then returning to their enclosures without me ever knowing. Since then I now have sugar glider proof enclosures & that’s all well & good if dummy here doesn’t leave the cage open 🤦🏻‍♂️ well Keekee took full advantage & went awol & didn’t return to the cage after. Out with the snake cam to try find her quick before she can cause more mischief.
Thankfully first spot I checked I found her, it was a tight squeeze, wedged between 2 enclosures lying on a heat mat. It was high up dark & cosy, the ideal spot for a fugitive suggy to lay low.
She’s now back safe with the other gliders.

It’s interesting when you speak with younger primary school kids about bugs, especially when they’re learning about mini beasts. I always ask them how do you know what makes an insect an insect? Top two answers are always because they have antennae & because they’re small, the antennae part is true to an extent. But other arthropods have antennae also, it’s because they’re small part that gets me, kids here are used to seeing tiny insects our native bugs don’t grow to enormous sizes, we do get some pretty big insects though, just look at the size of this stick insect on my hand.

Classroom all set up and ready for the next 2 days for our Wonderful rainforest workshop.
Today & tomorrow we’re at university of Aberdeens Zoology building for the first 2 days of TechFest. Next week we return to RGU for the remaining days of the festival.
I added a few plants to my set up, it give it some rainforest vibes, I think it looks good?
