⭐️NEW MEMBER - MR IAN MURRAY⭐️

On Thursday 28th May, the Aberdeen Tailors Incorporation welcomed Mr Ian Murray as a new member of the Trade.

Mr Murray joined as an upholsterer and completed an Essay Piece to the necessary standard and was found “to be sufficient”.

Following this, Mr Murray took the oath to the Trade and signed the minute book. A reception was then held in the library, where members and their partners warmly welcomed him, along with extending a special welcome to Mrs Murray.

👏On 15th May, the Aberdeen Tailors Incorporation held another well-attended and enjoyable quiz night, with Boxmaster Alan Moir taking on the role of compère and quizmaster for the evening.

During the event, the Trade organised both a summer hamper prize draw and a raffle featuring a variety of generously donated prizes from members. These activities successfully raised funds to support the Awards Schemes run in partnership with North East Scotland College and Gray’s School of Art fashion students.

The money raised will help ensure the continuation of this valuable programme in the year ahead. 👏

👞YORK CORDWAINERS CHARTER WEEKEND 👞

The Deacon Convener Ian MacIntosh was delighted to attend the Company of Cordwainers of the City of York 2026 Charter Weekend, held between the 8th and 10th of May.

The weekend began with an ice breaker supper hosted by the Leather Livery Companies of London. A sumptuous dinner was held in a private room at Middletons Hotel with drinks thereafter and an opportunity to deepen guild fellowship.

Saturday began with a guided visit to York Minster where guests gathered for a tour led by Minster Guide Alison Norman. Lunch followed with the afternoon free for sightseeing and fellowship. In the evening, members and guests gathered for the Annual Dinner at the historic Merchant Adventurers Hall.

A superb three course menu was enjoyed, featuring a Trio of Salmon, Harissa Spiced Lamb Shoulder, and Pear & Walnut Tarte Tatin, followed by coffee, tea and handmade chocolates.

Charter Day (Sunday) began with the procession forming at Bedern Hall- The procession consisted of Masters’, Clerks’ and other Robed Officials, making its way to All Saints, Pavement for the annual service. Afterwards, guests returned to Bedern Hall for a reception and formal photograph, before sitting down to a well attended Charter Day Luncheon.

The Deacon Convener extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this a memorable weekend celebrating tradition, fellowship and the enduring heritage of the Cordwainers of the City of York, whilst strengthening the ties with The Seven Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen.

🚒 Trinity Hall Staff Visit Altens Community Fire Station 🚒

Yesterday, members of the Trinity Hall team had the privilege of visiting Altens Community Fire Station to learn more about the vital work our local firefighters carry out every single day.

From emergency response and fire prevention to community safety education, the dedication and professionalism of the crews were clear throughout our visit. Hearing first‑hand about the challenges they face - and the impact they make across Aberdeen - was both inspiring and humbling.

A huge thank you to the team at Altens for taking the time to welcome us, share their expertise, and give us a deeper understanding of the essential role they play in keeping our communities safe.

⚜️ABERDEEN FLESHERS INCORPORATION VISIT LONDON⚜️

On Friday the 17th of April, members of the Aberdeen Fleshers had the honour of being hosted by Master Butcher Gwyn Howells and the Worshipful Company of Butchers at the historic Guildhall for the Masters Fundraising Ball for 2026.

The evening brought together over 300 guests from across the liveries and the wider meat industry. The Aberdeen Fleshers were delighted to receive a special mention for travelling down from Aberdeen - a gesture that reflects the growing respect and strong relationship being built between the Worshipful Company of Butchers and the Aberdeen Fleshers over recent years. This remarkable venue boasts gothic architecture, dramatic surroundings, and there was an atmosphere full of generosity, camaraderie, and purpose - a night of good company, great food, entertainment, and fundraising in one of the most iconic civic buildings in the UK.

The Worshipful Company of Butchers is one of London’s oldest livery companies, with roots stretching back over 1,000 years. It has long been at the heart of the capital’s meat trade, upholding standards, supporting education, and preserving the traditions of the craft.

Nearby stands the legendary Smithfield Market, which has operated in one form or another since around 1174, evolving from an open air livestock market into the modern wholesale market we know today. The Fleshers were privileged to receive a private 5am guided tour of Smithfield from Gwyn Howells and a market representative - a rare chance to see the market in full flow before dawn, and to appreciate its history, scale, and the people who keep it alive.

The Fleshers visit also included private access to Butchers’ Hall, a modern yet deeply historic building filled with artefacts that tell the story of the trade across centuries. The warmth of the welcome received was exceptional.

After the Worshipful Company of Butchers visited Aberdeen for the London Livery Weekend last year, this visit has further strengthened the ties. The Aberdeen Fleshers Incorporation and the Seven Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen look forward to continuing this relationship, building on shared heritage, mutual respect, and a commitment to supporting the future of craft.

A memorable trip, a historic setting, and a partnership that continues to grow. Grateful thanks to Master Gwyn Howell and the Worshipful Company of Butchers!

Huge congratulations to Beth Robertson for winning this years Foundation Apprentice of the year.
Our competition is run in conjunction with the l Seven Trades of Aberdeen and judged by manager Ewan Kirkpatrick from Trinity Hall
We are looking for great collaboration, great attendance, excellent engagement throughout the course, great behaviour and attitude and above and beyond approach to all practical activities.
Beth had the opportunity to do her placement and really got a lot from the experience including developing her meta-skills. There were also 3 events held at Trinity Hall which Beth worked in a team to plan, prepare, cook and serve lunches to a group of invited guests.
She then had to reflect on her experience and apply to be considered as FA of the year.
Well done again on your achievement, well deserved 👏
