We can’t wait to take over Cowdray Hall once again this Thursday, this time with The Edinburgh Quartet!

The Edinburgh Quartet presents the world premiere of Ben Lunn’s String Quartet No. 2, The Tyrant’s Might is Passing, paired with Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte - a programme that places a brand-new voice of defiance alongside a modern classic in dialogue with the string quartet’s history.

A little behind the scenes glimpse of Quatuor Bozzini and composer James Weeks at their first rehearsal of weatherworld quartets last year! 🎻🌿

A cycle of six quartets exploring our sensory and bodily experience of the outdoors, or the ‘weatherworld’.

Their sonic landscape is pervaded by rain and wind, sounding out the surfaces and bodies of the instruments in a shifting weave of harmonics, open strings and unpitched noise; sustained, glanced, brushed, tapped. In two of the quartets, traditional bows are even replaced with fern fronds and cypress sprigs!

Join us this Friday to experience weatherworld quartets live.

'weatherworld quartets' est un cycle de six quatuors, d’une durée d’environ 10 minutes chacun, qui explore notre expérience sensorielle et corporelle du plein air, le «monde météorologique». Leur paysage sonore est imprégné de pluie et de vent, faisant résonner les surfaces et les corps des instruments dans un entrelacement changeant d’harmoniques, de cordes à vide et de bruits sans hauteur, soutenus, effleurés, brossés, tapotés.

What a first week of soundfestival 2026!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our first week.

We took you on soundwalks (before the storm had other ideas!), welcomed you into a ex Cold War nuclear bunker, got you reading aloud in Aberdeen Art Gallery, filled some incredible spaces with music and so much more.

One of our favourite things has been seeing so many new faces, with lots of you joining us for the very first time. We hope it won’t be your last!💙

A massive thank you to our wonderful artists, volunteers, venues and everyone who helped make our first week possible.

Missed out on the fun? Don’t worry, we’re not finished yet. We’ve still got plenty in store between now and 31 October, with more opportunities to discover something new and experience soundfestival for yourself.

Join us for two FREE performances today in the cosy surroundings of Cowdray Hall!

11.30am–12.30pm | Aberdeen Unfolded Sharing

Danish ensemble Lydenskab joins us following a week of creative collaboration with communities across North-East Scotland.

Through experimental workshops, shared reflections and creative exchange, participants have brought together voices, sounds and compostable materials to explore the region’s identity, traditions and changing perspectives, sharing stories of transformation.

3–3.30pm | Community Day Concert

Musicians from across our local community come together to perform The Metalization of a Dream by composer Duncan MacLeod.

Inspired by Aberdeen’s landscape, this unique work will be shaped by the musicians taking part, bringing their ideas and sounds together in a collaborative performance.

EVENT CANCELLATION: Raydale Dower's Single Drop

We regret to announce that tomorrow's showing of Single Drop at Bon Accord Baths (Sunday 25 October) has been cancelled.

Following discussions with the Bon Accord Baths team, we have been advised to cancel the final day of the installation as a precautionary measure due to the severe weather conditions and the age of the historic building.

The safety of our visitors, artists and everyone involved remains our priority.

We are still planning to go ahead with the rest of our scheduled programme. Performed by University Concert Band Breakout Group.

Join us for Architectural Arpeggios, a relaxed evening exploring the connection between sound and image, curated by Aberdeen-based composer Hadrian Gray.

Experience six world premieres by composers Kristian Rasmussen, Pixie Nishina, Hadrian Gray, Alexander Stafford, Rory Anderson and Rhianna Henderson, each inspired by photographic works.

Stay after the performance for a conversation exploring the ideas behind the music!
