The English edition of the new graphic novel by Maybelline Skvortzoff.
𝘛𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘺𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘢 follows a family on the outskirts of Paris whose lives spin out of control in a fast, darkly funny “hyperlink” narrative. Thirteen-year-old Ninon sneaks out at night with her best friend Eva, already drawing male attention even though she’s barely a teenager. Judith, their older sister, struggles through her shifts at an organic grocery store and numbs her anxiety with drugs and her hopeless rapper boyfriend. Meanwhile, Cora, their mother, tries to rekindle a desire her husband Arthur no longer feels, leading to moments that are both painfully comic and quietly heartbreaking.
The title refers to tachycardia, a medical condition in which the heart beats abnormally fast. In French, 𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘺𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘦 is also commonly used to describe a heart racing from stress, drugs, or overwhelming emotion — a fitting metaphor for characters ruled by impulses they can’t fully understand. Skvortzoff explores desire, shame, and addiction with a raw and tender eye: Eva wrestling with confusing longings shaped by a society that sexualizes girls long before they’re ready; Judith sabotaging herself out of fear of intimacy; Arthur drowning in nostalgia; Cora fighting invisibility.
Their chaotic journeys move from hilarity to discomfort, from compassion to shock — whether they’re possessed by a tapeworm, betrayed by bad oysters, or undone by an ill-advised n**e.
With her sharp black-and-white linework and razor-edged humor, Maybelline Skvortzoff delivers a striking page-turner that blends grotesque comedy with disarming emotional clarity.
