RICHARD BARLOW (UNITED STATES)

My recent artistic practice centers on large-scale, temporary, site-specific chalk drawings of the natural world, created directly on gallery walls and erased at the end of each exhibition. The fragility of these ephemeral landscapes, and the possibility that they may be altered by a simple touch, reflects environmental and existential concerns, evoking memory and loss. My imagery is drawn primarily from my own photographic documentation. My recent work focuses on water, particularly spring river sources historically associated with ritual sites. During my stay in Vallauris, I hiked along the Brague River to gather imagery and reflect on the long-standing relationship between people and this landscape.

AMANDA BROWN (CANADA)

Being part of the bustling village of Vallauris, I seek to offer a moment of respite from the increasingly chaotic contemporary world. Conceived as visual poems, my installations invite visitors to move through the space and experience a sense of wonder. Inspired by the smooth grey and white pebbles of the beaches of Nice and Golfe-Juan, I create modular forms that transform spaces using minimal material. My smaller works, inspired by plants, explore repetition, reclaimed materials, and everyday objects, forming open-ended installations nourished by nature, artist communities, and arches as symbols of the connection between humanity and history.

CARLA COLLINS (UNITED STATES)

This installation explores the intersection of the tea ceremony’s ritual grounding and the therapeutic traditions of ancient Etruscan votives. Once shaped from earth as sacred offerings for healing, fertility, and harmony, these forms are reimagined in raw terracotta and stoneware. Using minimal glaze and materials such as local clay, tea, and herbs, the installation engages all the senses. Hand-carved vessels evoke neroli blossoms, seed pods, and sacred geometry. Created for breath, aroma, and touch, the works invite visitors to slow down. Blindfolds deepen the immersive experience, while perforated vessels diffuse the scents of Vallauris. This collective ritual explores the relationship between the body, the environment, art, and healing.

NELIA MAYER-ROLSHOVEN (GERMANY)

Architectures of Nourishment explores food as a catalyst for community building, examining how the design of functional objects can shape rituals of gathering and sharing. Inspired by the social culture of Vallauris, where shared meals play an important role in community life, the project considers the table as a site of encounter and ceramic objects as mediators of connection. Composed of modular ceramic pieces incorporating graters, reservoirs for oils or sauces, candle holders, and serving surfaces, the works exist between functional object and sculpture. Their modularity encourages participants to continuously reshape the shared table, making collaboration part of the experience. Initially conceived as architectural forms, the sculptures gradually evolved into bird-like mythical creatures, reflecting reciprocal acts of feeding, care, and shared nourishment.

🎹 Renaud Le Dantec est pianiste, improvisateur et compositeur, à la croisée du classique et du jazz. Professeur au Conservatoire de Nice, il développe ses projets en solo ou en formation. Il a dirigé le projet « Jazz et Symphonique, une histoire d’amour » à l’Opéra de Nice (2015) et composé la musique du film Le Refuge des Gwich’in (2018). Présent sur de nombreuses scènes et festivals, il a enregistré avec Volume 5 et l’Azur Big Band. Aujourd’hui pianiste du groupe de salsa Palma De Oro, du trio Hejaz et du Chœur de Mougins, il poursuit sa carrière de compositeur et d’improvisateur. C’est un plaisir d’accueillir Renaud Le Dantec, qui accompagnera musicalement le vernissage de notre exposition.

RICHARD BARLOW (UNITED STATES)

Richard is an American artist whose practice centers on large-scale, site-specific chalk drawings of the natural world, created directly on gallery walls and erased after exhibition. His ephemeral works explore environmental and existential themes. He holds an MFA from the University of Minnesota and a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, teaches at Hartwick College, and is a two-time recipient of the New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Drawing.

RICHARD BARLOW (ÉTATS-UNIS)

Richard est un artiste américain dont la pratique est centrée sur de grands dessins éphémères réalisés à la craie directement sur les murs des galeries. Inspirées du monde naturel, ses œuvres in situ explorent les questions environnementales et existentielles. Titulaire d’un MFA de l’Université du Minnesota et d’un BFA de la Rhode Island School of Design, il enseigne au Hartwick College et a reçu à deux reprises la bourse de dessin de la New York Foundation for the Arts.

AMANDA BROWN (CANADA)

Amanda is a Montreal-based sculptor who combines materials such as wood, clay, fabric, and found objects to create intimate experiences in public spaces. A graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, she has exhibited in the United States, Canada, Denmark, and China. Inspired by the poetic and transformative qualities of architecture and nature, her installations invite viewers to experience a sense of wonder.
