Imagine walking outside and seeing hundreds of people dancing in the streets until their hearts stop beating.
Sounds like a horror movie, right? But in July 1518, this actually happened in Strasbourg. It started with one woman stepping into the street and dancing uncontrollably. Within a month, 400 people had joined her.
They couldn't stop. They danced until they collapsed from exhaustion, strokes, and heart attacks.
Doctors at the time blamed "hot blood" and told them to keep dancing to cure it. Modern scientists blame "Ergot poisoning" (a toxic mold on bread).
But let’s talk about the ultimate What If...
What if this wasn't accidental food poisoning? What if the Dancing Plague was an early psychological phenomenon—or worse, a hypnotic trigger that spread like a virus through the human mind?
Could a mass hysteria like this happen again today with social media? Let me know what you think! 💭
