A Bientot, Provence!
Packing is always hard…painting in special “ spots”, exploring new places , hiking over 100 miles, coming face to face with a wild boar, and meeting new friends, I am ready to go home. Some of my paintings from this trip will be in Provincetown for my show opening Friday the 26th at Gallery 193, which will focus on my larger Flight Level series. So the journey continues , from Provence to Provincetown!!…but no place like home.. my little village of Cotuit and my wonderful family. 🥰

The lavender has begun to bloom in Lacoste, Gordes in the distance.. I stopped to paint. I moved my car for the farmer in his tractor and he gave me the “ thumbs-up”.

The Resident Artist Group Show opens this Friday, May 29 at Gallery 193 ArtSpace — 6 to 9 PM, 193 Commercial Street, Provincetown. On view through June 11.

Rob Longley studies the early hours, when mist still sits on the water and the light has not yet committed to the day. Cool Summer Mist catches that moment and draws the viewer into the stillness.

So much to take in here.. the varieties of roses, flowers and foliage ! I’m trying to stay loose and take the approach these are studies and to let my eyes settle in.
The scents, the sounds, the color…. I want to embrace it all!

Poppies at last! On way to The Abbey and could not help myself stopping here. In Provence the farmers rotate cultivation frequently. Hence, favorite spots are now vegetables , vineyards, or new olive groves. Great backdrop

I am thrilled to be back in the Luberon region of Provence . I will be spending 3 days at the Abbeye where they grow 450 different varieties of roses! A peaceful, calming, beautiful place to paint. Syd Hale painted en plein air in the garden of the Abbey of Valsaintes, in the lavender country of Provence — cypress trees, ochre paths, a garden at full summer bloom. The light is the subject as much as the place.
