Dear Paul Rijkens,
Thank you so much for this beautiful and thoughtful review of Timeless.
Your words deeply resonate with me, and I feel truly honoured by the care and sensitivity with which you listened to the music.
It means a lot to me that the spirit of the Berlin School, and the lineage of artists such as Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream, can still be felt through my work.
Thank you for keeping this music alive through your writing and for sharing it with such passion.
With gratitude,
Laurent Schieber
Sequentia Legenda
"For the album Timeless, Sequentia Legenda has entered into a collaboration with the Argentinian electronic music label Cyclical Dreams.
The music of Sequentia Legenda (the French musician Laurent Schieber) fits perfectly with this steadily growing label. The album title is once again well chosen: this music is indeed timeless.
Great masters such as Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream developed this style, the Berlin School, in the 1970s (especially during the second half of that decade), and musicians like Laurent continue to keep the flame alive.
Timeless consists of three long tracks. The opening piece, Celestial Waves Of Light, begins with beautiful effects reminiscent of a vast sea of water. A sharp sequence enters, which reminds me of the one heard in Klaus Schulze’s A Few Minutes After Trancefer from the album Trancefer. The surrounding atmosphere, however, is clearly rooted in the 1970s, and I find this combination very skilfully done.
The full-sounding male choirs from the Mellotron, known for example from Schulze’s album X, are magnificent. Timeless Ethereal Light (once again, the titles on this album are beautifully chosen) features a stunning, melancholic sequence that later evolves into multiple sequences. The ending has a slightly industrial character.
Speaking of sequences: the final composition contains an absolute top sequence and once again those wonderful choirs. For listeners like myself, who cannot get enough of this track, an alternative version featuring Charlotte Abigaël Dubois on theremin can be found on Sequentia Legenda’s Bandcamp page. The combination of Laurent’s sequencing and the haunting sound of this legendary electronic instrument creates a truly striking effect."
