Pakistan has not “taken” land from Afghanistan in the sense of a recent conquest or annexation. The confusion usually comes from a long-standing border dispute.
🗺️ The real issue: the Durand Line
The border between the two countries is called the
👉 Durand Line Agreement
Drawn in 1893 between Afghanistan and British India
It split Pashtun tribal areas between both sides
When Pakistan was created in 1947, it inherited this border
🇦🇫 Afghanistan’s position
Afghanistan has historically disputed this border, arguing:
The agreement was imposed during colonial rule
It unfairly divided ethnic groups (especially Pashtuns)
Therefore, they don’t fully accept it as a permanent border
🇵🇰 Pakistan’s position
Pakistan considers:
The Durand Line as the official international border
Recognized by most of the world
Legally inherited after independence from British India
⚠️ So did Pakistan “take land”?
👉 Not exactly.
The border was drawn before Pakistan existed
Pakistan did not invade and seize Afghan land later
Instead, it kept the boundary created under British rule
🔥 Why people think this
There are ongoing tensions:
Border fencing by Pakistan
Clashes along the frontier
Historical Afghan claims over Pashtun regions
These make it seem like a land dispute or “taking,” but it’s really about disagreement over where the border should be.
Long life Afghanistan 🇦🇫🦅⚖️🦅
