🙏🏼 Many thanks to everyone who responded to our Call for Papers for the symposium ‘Montparnasse and its Legacies’, taking place 13–14 November 2026 at Reid Hall in Paris.

🌍 We received an impressive number of high-quality submissions from around the world, and we are delighted to be inviting speakers from an exciting range of backgrounds and perspectives.

🗓️ This symposium opens Montparnasse International Week (15–21 November), a rich programme of public events, site visits, and walking tours inviting everyone to actively explore and experience the living Montparnasse arts ecosystem.

🤝 Special thanks to our key partners in this district-wide initiative with global reach: Columbia Global Paris Center Columbia University in Paris and — both carrying forward the enduring legacy of Montparnasse.

Welcome to SOFT GROUND! 👾

Many thanks to everyone who joined us for the opening of the solo exhibition by , developed in relation to his residency with curated by .a_!

We will be exceptionally open every Thursday in July to continue welcoming guests who wish to discover this 19th-century atelier for sculptural production and explore the transformation of the body into data in the age of digital technologies.

Next Thursday, Dr. Stephanie Nadalo will take us on a historical journey through the life and work of one of the former residents of , art historian Diogo de Macedo (1889–1959).

Discussions, discoveries, and decisions—the process of exchange is at the heart of every residency. Here, our artist, curator, and art historian reflect on the historical legacy of as they prepare for the exhibition, in partnership with Fondation Calouste Gulbenkian - Délégation en France

At the dawn of the 20th century, artistic production underwent numerous transformations. Artists of Cité Falguière, arriving to join the École de Paris, such as Diogo de Macedo (1889–1959), navigated between academic traditions and modernist sensibilities, fostering a spirit of experimentation. Using photogrammetry and 3D printing, Miguel Cipriano explores how sculptural engagement has shifted from the hand to the machine, and how the body is now mediated through digital means.

L’AiR Arts is thrilled to welcome back alum resident, Miguel Cipriano! Miguel first participated in the L’AiR Arts Curated Group Program in 2022 and has now came back for a residency and exhibition at Atelier 11, in partnership with Fondation Calouste Gulbenkian - Délégation en France !

His project involves an exhibition centered on representations of the body at the intersection of sculpture, photography and contemporary digital technologies. Taking the artistic milieu of and the Ecole de Paris as a historical point of departure, the project reflects on how sculptural practices evolved from mechanical to digital.

📣 L’AiR Arts and Cité Falguière associations are thrilled to announce Montparnasse International!

A district-wide community initiative, it reaffirms Montparnasse as a historic epicentre of intercultural exchange. By reclaiming this history, the program positions the legacy of the École de Paris as a vital, contemporary model for fostering international solidarity through artistic and cultural heritage.

Organized in partnership with the Columbia Global Paris Center , the initiative will kick off in November 2026 with the inaugural Montparnasse International Week, showcasing the Montparnasse arts ecosystem and the vibrant spaces that continue to foster intercultural exchange.

We invite scholars, artists, and cultural practitioners to submit proposals for the Global Symposium at Reid Hall, exploring the legacy of the École de Paris, creative innovation, and mobility.

🪭On one of the hottest days in Parisian history, we stayed cool with a few easy hacks: fans, plenty of hydration, and wet cloths. The most interesting tip, however, was illustrated by a freshly painted self-portrait by our current resident, .

🍃Working in the studio during the heatwave took on a poetic and poignant meaning, as Cecilia often adapts her practice to weather conditions, working in dialogue with nature.

💦 During her research into the past residents of , she discovered a painting by Chaïm Soutine, La Femme entrant dans l’eau (1931), reproduced in the exhibition catalogue found in our library. His work, inspired by Rembrandt’s A Woman Bathing in a Stream (1654), evokes a tradition of cooling the feet and legs in water that has existed across many cultures for centuries.

As it turns out, a simple cool foot-and-calf soak is an easy, low-tech way to lower your body temperature and feel noticeably more comfortable on a hot day.

Art rarely begins in isolation. What unfolds when one artist picks up where another left off?

Inspired by the artists who have previously worked , our current artist-in-residence , lets the research process guide her practice. Here, she works with frames and canvas stretchers left at the Atelier by its longest resident .
