To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 59 Seconds Video Festival, Project 59 is organizing 20 international screenings featuring a selection from the final collection of the best 59 videos plus new AI-generated works. Each video is 59 seconds long. The best 59 videos were selected in 2005-2008 by 59 audiences from 59 worldwide screenings.Launched in 2005 by Project 59 (Irina Danilova & Hiram Levy) at 59 Franklin Street in Tribeca, NYC, the 59 Seconds Video Festival was a play off as well as a metaphor for the short video format. While sampling an emerging digital video art scene, it facilitated an exchange of ideas and information, presenting a wide range of video works, including mini documentaries, political satire, narratives, experimental, edgy, controversial, and a unique collection of videos that integrated the number 59.

The first video editing software was released in the mid-to-late 1990s (Final Cut Pro for Mac in 1999), and by 2005 there was a significant number of artists experimenting with the moving image. The current experiments with new AI technologies make the 20th anniversary of the 59 Seconds Video Festival a good opportunity to compare and bridge the gap between pioneering new technologies used by artists in 2005 and 2025.

Pour célébrer le 20e anniversaire du 59 Seconds Video Festival, Project 59 organise 20 projections internationales présentant une sélection des 59 meilleures vidéos, ainsi que de nouvelles œuvres générées par l'IA. Chaque vidéo dure 59 secondes. Les 59 meilleures vidéos ont été sélectionnées entre 2005 et 2008 par 59 publics lors de 59 projections internationales.Lancé en 2005 par Project 59 (Irina Danilova et Hiram Levy) au 59 Franklin Street à Tribeca, à New York, le 59 Seconds Video Festival était à la fois une démonstration et une métaphore du format vidéo court. Tout en découvrant une scène artistique vidéo numérique émergente, le festival a favorisé l'échange d'idées et d'informations, présentant un large éventail d'œuvres vidéo, dont des mini-documentaires, des satires politiques, des récits, des œuvres expérimentales, audacieuses et controversées, ainsi qu'une collection unique de vidéos intégrant le nombre 59.

Le premier logiciel de montage vidéo est sorti au milieu ou à la fin des années 1990 (Final Cut Pro pour Mac en 1999), et dès 2005, de nombreux artistes expérimentaient l'image en mouvement. Les expérimentations actuelles avec les nouvelles technologies d'intelligence artificielle font du 20e anniversaire du 59 Seconds Video Festival une excellente occasion de comparer et de rapprocher les nouvelles technologies pionnières utilisées par les artistes en 2005 et 2025.
