Base Against Base
Two plates are joined base-to-base and fixed with traditional metal staples.
A technique originally used for repair becomes structural, and through a perforation, the object is transformed into a vase.

Rather than following conventional ceramic form, the work foregrounds repair as a generative act.
Between intactness and damage, the function and meaning of the object are redefined.

I’ve always wanted to become a designer, out of curiosity for how this field perceives and constructs the world.
After years of collaborations, and .jdz are now helping me move toward that position.
Our residency in Jingdezhen has just begun.
I guess I’m becoming a fu***ng designer.

A small monkey from the Song dynasty, Hutian kiln.

What struck me first was its scale —
small enough to disappear in the palm.
And then the gesture: spontaneous, yet precise; simple, yet vividly alive.

There is no excess.
Only an intuitive accuracy in the hand of the artisan.

Time has taken a part of it away.
I did not attempt to restore it to its original state.

Instead, I “repaired” it with glass and kintsugi —
not to erase the loss,
but to inscribe another temporal layer.

A fracture becomes a point of dialogue
between past and present.

Petit singe de la dynastie Song, four de Hutian.

Ce qui m’a d’abord frappé, c’est l’échelle —
assez petit pour disparaître dans la paume.
Puis le geste : spontané, mais d’une justesse remarquable ; simple, mais intensément vivant.

Aucune surcharge.
Seulement une précision intuitive dans la main de l’artisan.

Le temps en a emporté une partie.
Je n’ai pas cherché à le restituer à l’identique.

Je l’ai « réparé » avec du verre et du kintsugi —
non pour effacer la perte,
mais pour ajouter une nouvelle strate temporelle.

La fracture devient un lieu de dialogue
entre passé et présent.

Je présente des œuvres issues de Bubble Game et Fragile Accord,
où des fragments de céramiques historiques rencontrent le verre soufflé,
entre fragilité et résistance.

A Qing-dynasty Dehua blanc-de-chine Guanyin I collected — a misfired piece from the kiln — now enters my Bubble Game system.
She lowers her head gently, as if paused between two possibilities:
perhaps she has fallen asleep on a cloud,
or perhaps the glass cloud above her makes her bow ever so slightly.
A quiet moment where uncertainty becomes its own form of beauty.

Une Guanyin en blanc de Chine de la dynastie Qing que j’ai collectée — autrefois une pièce manquée au four — rejoint aujourd’hui mon système Bubble Game.
Elle incline doucement la tête, comme suspendue entre deux états :
peut-être s’est-elle assoupie sur un nuage,
ou peut-être le nuage en verre au-dessus d’elle l’amène à se pencher imperceptiblement.
Un instant de tranquillité où l’incertitude devient une forme de beauté.
