Founded in 2016 by a group of performers, producers and technicians from Hong Kong and South-East Asia, the company is committed to creating, producing and touring vibrant and interna

This is Breathood: a visual theatre project exploring object theatre, puppetry, mask work and live bagpipes. A cross-generational creation, built from the inside out.

The journey continues ：Paris, Indonesia, and beyond.

《Breathood》is a visual theatre project exploring object theatre, puppetry, mask work and live bagpipes.

This research phase brought together artists and students aged 13–20+ and 40+, engaging in a cross-generational creation that traces a life cycle through physical and material practice.

Notre nouvelle création Désolé·e, j’ai oublié d’oublier a commencé —
avec Merdan Ehet’éli, poète ouïghour ; Ziale, danseuse traditionnelle ouïghoure ; et Lok Kan Cheung, artiste hongkongaise travaillant autour du théâtre d’objets, du corps et de la mémoire.

Ancrée dans l’expérience du déplacement, la pièce traverse des fragments de rêves, de gestes et de voix en quête d’un foyer dans la mémoire.
Les objets deviennent les traces de l’absence, et le mouvement, la langue de ce qui ne peut revenir.

Nous entamons notre résidence au DOC, où des récits venus de différents horizons se tissent dans un même espace de création.

with Merdan Ehet’éli, a Uyghur poet; Ziale, a traditional Uyghur dancer; and Lok Kan Cheung, a Hong Kong theatre artist working with objects, body, and memory.

Rooted in experiences of displacement, the piece moves through fragments of dreams, gestures, and voices that search for home within memory.
Objects become traces of absence; movement becomes a language of what cannot return.

A Transformative Journey with Theatre Ash 🎭✨

Earlier this year, Alex embarked on an extraordinary journey guided by two masters—Agung Gunawan, an internationally acclaimed dancer, and Ki Pono Wiguno, a fifth-generation Javanese mask-maker whose family’s work is displayed in museums worldwide.

Traveling through rivers, villages, and the awe-inspiring Borobudur, Alex explored the profound connection between movement and masks. Ki Pono Wiguno even crafted four bespoke masks for Alex, helping him deepen his artistic exploration—a truly transformative experience.

Building on this remarkable foundation, Theatre Ash is excited to announce the next phase of this journey later this year. With the integration of Lecoq-based training and object theatre inspired by the philosophy of Philippe Genty company, and in collaboration with Agung and Ki Pono, this upcoming workshop will expand creative possibilities in masks, movement, and storytelling.

This next chapter will offer participants fresh opportunities to explore and express their unique artistic voices, blending tradition with innovation in truly inspiring ways.

🎭 走進爪哇藝術的核心，探索傳統與現代的完美交融
由國際知名導師 Agung Gunawan 和 Ki Pono Wiguno 領銜的專業工作坊，將於 2025 年 1 月在 印尼藝術之都日惹 舉行。這是一次針對 面具製作 與 舞蹈創作 的深入學習之旅，融合爪哇傳統文化與現代表演技巧，為藝術愛好者提供開啟創作靈感的寶貴機會。

✨ 工作坊亮點

1️⃣ 面具製作與文化探索
在爪哇面具大師 Ki Pono Wiguno 的指導下，學員將：
• 設計並親手製作獨一無二的木面具。
• 深入了解爪哇面具的歷史意涵及文化價值，探索其在表演中的象徵意義。
• 感受傳統工藝與現代設計在國際舞台上的融合。

2️⃣ 舞蹈與身體表現
在舞者及編舞家 Agung Gunawan 的引領下，深入學習：
• 爪哇宮廷舞的四大核心：Sawiji（專注）、Greget（投入）、Sengguh（自信）、Ora Mingkuh（不抗拒）。
• 將 Agung 的舞蹈哲學「呼吸、聆聽、感受、飄浮」融入肢體表達，拓展角色轉換與空間感知的可能性。
• 創作個人化的舞蹈片段，結合面具與舞蹈，展現創作的完整性。

3️⃣ 個人創作與公開展示
• 在兩位導師的指導下，完成屬於自己的舞台創作。
• 最終演出以公開展示形式呈現，學員有機會運用面具與舞蹈講述自己的故事，體驗藝術表達的深層力量。
