A project shaped by observation, iteration, and time — model studies as a practice of noticing. As Beth Kempton writes in Wabi Sabi: Japanese Wisdom for a Perfectly Imperfect Life (2018), “The seasons are a kind of wabi sabi metronome, a steady call back to the present, to noticing, savouring and treasuring.”

Cultural spaces are more than places for art; they are anchors within the city, shaped by the rhythms of collective life.

In this imagined space, dance—one of the oldest forms of cultural expression—permeates the atmosphere, revealing bodies entangled within an inseparable whole. Echoing Pina Bausch’s reflection that she was “not interested in how people move, but what moves them,” the space becomes a vessel where individual and collective identities converge through movement.

Architecture is often understood through its forms, but it is perhaps more deeply experienced through movement; through the way spaces unfold, connect, and redirect perception.

In our projects, we conceive buildings as continuous sequences of spatial thresholds. Circulations become narratives.

Every project is an “Archaeology of the Future.” Traces already embedded within a site, fragments of past constructions, erased grounds, layers of collective memory, and stories, find their way into every new intervention. They become starting points for architecture, allowing each building to emerge as a vessel for knowledge.

Between disappearance and persistence, architecture projects us into extraordinary spaces that reinforce the present while simultaneously projecting toward the future.

Art needs spaces that do more than contain exhibitions. It needs places that provoke encounters, invite participation, and extend artistic expression into the life of the city itself.

Conceived as a living scenic device, our finalist proposal for PHI Contemporary imagined architecture as a medium for art: immersive, performative, and constantly evolving through light, movement, and human interaction. Inside, a network of interconnected courtyards, ramps, patios, and stages creates a sequence of spatial experiences where exhibitions, performances, education, and informal gatherings coexist.

The Haudenosaunee Confederacy, commonly known as the Iroquois people, were among the first Indigenous peoples to inhabit and steward the land on which Montreal now stands. Recognized for their matrilineal social structure, in which lineage, inheritance, and family identity are passed through the mother’s side, the Iroquois developed strong communal traditions rooted in cooperation and harmony with nature.

Like a luminous and ghostly presence, our finalist proposal to PHI Contemporary evokes the memory of the Iroquois “Longhouse” the traditional shelter typology of the Iroquois people. Here vertical wooden lines are abstracted onto textured glass façades, creating the impression of glowing lanterns dissolving into light. This enigmatic and immersive architecture fosters strong urban interaction, transforming the façade into an interactive multimedia surface and a medium for artistic expression within the city.

What is the place of Art in our societies?

At a time when conflicts and injustice weigh heavily on humanity, Art in all its forms remains a voice that reveals the unseen and brings us together through an unspoken language that has united us since the dawn of humanity.

Contemporary art museums are themselves a form of Art within the city. Here, we share our competition proposal for a museum in Montréal, conceived as a porous and atmospheric space shaped by light, gathering, and the layered memory of the site.

Imagined as a place of encounter and cultural exchange, our design for PHI Contemporary sought to narrate, through architecture, the history of the site, public life, and the evolving landscape of Montréal.

Mona Hatoum’s installation All of a Quiver, presented at in Milan, unfolds as a suspended structure poised between tension and stillness.

In her essay “Trembling Architecture,” written for Il Quaderno #41, Lina Ghotmeh reflects on the work through the lens of architecture understood not as an instrument of control, but as a form of attention: attentive to memory, fragility, and what persists beneath the visible.

The text considers vulnerability not as weakness, but as a condition for resonance, transformation, and continuity through time.

For the Milano Design Week 2026, our installation Metamorphosis in Motion at Palazzo Litta became a place of encounter; where, in a world moving ever faster, architecture slows us down and reconnects us with one another.

Inspired by the palazzo’s history, and positioned at the intersection of architecture, art, and design, the installation unfolds as a choreographed landscape. Within its baroque, layered geometry, people, space, and time interact; giving rise to moments of intimacy and shared presence.

Its warm red atmosphere, evoking the tones of Beirut, infuses the space with memory and vitality, inviting visitors to read, meet, listen, and simply be together.

Our sincere gratitude to MoscaPartners, to our entire team at Lina Ghotmeh — Architecture, and to all our partners for bringing this playful architecture to life.
