The Festival and Collaborative Theatre Committee (FACT) is pleased to announce that Mr. Le Quy Duong, President of FACT and Co-Coordinator of the ITI Asia-Pacific Regional Council, has received the title of Honorary Professor from the Mongolian National University of Arts and Culture. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝟮 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗮𝘀𝘀𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗶𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗻𝗮𝗺.

This distinction recognizes Mr. Le Quy Duong’s outstanding contributions to theatre education, research and international cooperation. It particularly acknowledges his efforts to introduce Mongolian theatre arts and culture to the international theatre community, strengthen cultural relations between Mongolia and Vietnam, and develop sustained cooperation among theatre organizations across the Asia-Pacific region.

His initiatives have supported artistic and academic exchanges, joint productions, international festivals and forums. Future plans include a joint Mongolia–Vietnam creative project for 2026–2027 and the collaborative organization of an Asia-Pacific international theatre festival.

The International Theatre Institute warmly congratulates Mr. Le Quy Duong on this well-deserved recognition and looks forward to the continued development of international theatre cooperation through FACT and the wider ITI network.

The Zimbabwe Centre of ITI, in partnership with the Zimbabwe Theatre Academy, is pleased to announce that the Mitambo International Theatre Festival (MITF) will take place from 22 to 26 September 2026.

Founded in 2019 by Lloyd Nyikadzino, Zimbabwean theatre practitioner, educator, cultural leader and member of the ITI Executive Council, Mitambo has developed into an international platform connecting Zimbabwe and Africa with the global theatre community.

Over the years, the festival has welcomed artists and participants from more than 20 countries, including Brazil, Canada, France, India, South Africa, Germany, Vietnam, Nigeria, the United Kingdom and the USA.

Through performances, workshops, masterclasses, discussions, artist exchanges and professional networking, Mitambo promotes international collaboration, cultural dialogue, knowledge-sharing and professional development. It also supports emerging artists and contributes to Zimbabwe’s cultural and creative industries by strengthening artistic networks and creating opportunities for exchange and cooperation.

At its core, Mitambo celebrates the power of theatre to connect people, cultures and ideas, bringing international artists to Zimbabwe while creating opportunities for Zimbabwean and African artists to engage with the world.

Every General Assembly brings the worldwide ITI community together.

This year, it also opens a new space for us to connect, exchange and collaborate.

Recently endorsed by the Executive Council, the new participation model for the 38th ITI General Assembly expands the experience beyond the Statutory General Assembly itself. From 15 to 17 December, a new Pre-General Assembly Exchange Programme will create opportunities for dialogue, knowledge-sharing and international collaboration, leading into the 38th Statutory General Assembly on 18 December.

Like theatre itself, this programme will be created through encounter. It will grow from the ideas, experiences and creativity shared by ITI Centres, Committees and Networks around the world. Together, we hope to create a programme that reflects not only the diversity of our community, but also the connections that bring us together.

An open Call for Contributions, to be launched in early September, will invite ITI Centres, Committees and Networks to help shape the programme by sharing inspiring projects, artistic practices, research and experiences. We also warmly welcome the wider performing arts community to follow this journey and join the conversations that will unfold in the months ahead.

This new chapter will take shape step by step. In the coming months, we will introduce the programme, share opportunities to participate and reveal the people and ideas that will help bring it to life.

We look forward to building it together.

The public programme will take place on 7 and 8 August at Teatro del Pueblo, featuring theatre performances, recitals, staged readings, talks, workshops and other artistic activities. Open to the entire community, the event aims to encourage collaboration among artists and strengthen the connections that unite the region through theatre and the performing arts.

During the programme, the ITI Regional Council of the Americas will also convene, offering ITI members an important opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss regional priorities and explore future cooperation.

The non-competitive festival serves as a platform for artistic exchange and cultural dialogue, embracing the full spectrum of puppetry from traditional forms to contemporary practices. Special attention will be given to works exploring puppetry and technology, artificial intelligence, and multimedia. The programme welcomes stage productions for adults, children and young audiences, as well as outdoor and site-specific works.

🟫𝗜𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗺: 𝗔𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶 (𝟭𝟵𝟲𝟰-𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲)
The International Theatre Institute (ITI) mourns the passing of Adriana Garbagnati, Program Director and Coordinator at La MaMa Umbria International in Spoleto, and active member of the Italian Centre of ITI ITI - International Theatre Institute - Italia. She unexpectedly left us on 10 May 2026, leaving behind a profound void in the world of performing arts.

Adriana’s journey in the arts began in the early 2000s with Offucina Eclectic Art, marking the start of a lifelong dedication to cultural innovation. As La Mama Umbria International’s director, she breathed new life into the former monastery of Santa Maria Reggiana in Spoleto, the space where Ellen Stewart established the European headquarters of the La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, becoming a bridge between Umbria and New York’s avant-garde spirit.

Adriana passionately and diligently carried forward the artistic legacy of Ellen Stewart, being not just a guardian of this legacy, but a creative force and a guiding light for innovative cultural experiences that transformed Umbria into a global crossroads for the performing arts.

Her unwavering dedication to preserving and nurturing Ellen Stewart’s vision allowed generations of international artists to find not only a home but also a mentor, who welcomed them with warmth, built meaningful relationships, and inspired their growth.

She had an extraordinary ability to see and nurture potential in others, guiding young artists with conviction, sensitivity, and discretion, and supporting them every step of the way. At La MaMa Umbria, she coordinated workshops, productions, training programs, and festivals, collaborating closely with local organizations.

Adriana Garbagnati’s legacy is one of passion, innovation, and boundless generosity. She leaves behind a world enriched by her vision, her mentorship, and her unwavering belief in the transformative power of the arts. While she may no longer be with us, her spirit lives on in the artists she inspired, the spaces she nurtured, and the communities she brought together.
