🎼 Filarmonica Mihail Jora Bacău vă invită joia viitoare, pe 8 octombrie, de la ora 18:30, la Centrul de Afaceri și Expoziții Bacău, la concertul ce va avea doi invitați speciali: apreciatul dirijor Omar El Jamali 🪄 și unul dintre cei mai valoroși artiști români ai generației sale, pianistul Dragoș Cantea. 🎹

🎶 Alături de orchestra Filarmonicii "Mihail Jora" Bacău, vă așteptăm cu un program de excepție care va cuprinde:

Feeling incredibly lucky to have discovered Botoșani and this beautiful corner of Romania — a place with such a rich musical history, and so closely connected to George Enescu.

During my time here, I had the chance to visit Enescu’s birthplace and to see some of the places, instruments, manuscripts and objects that tell the story of his life. There is something quite special about discovering this history while also making music with the orchestra that bears his name.

Filarmonica de Stat George Enescu Botoşani is a wonderful orchestra, full of musicians with a real desire to play, to give, and above all to share music with their audience.

This week we opened the season with Dvořák’s New World Symphony and his Violin Concerto, together with the wonderful liviuprunaru.violin.

And I’m very happy that this is only the beginning. In a few weeks I’ll be back for Dvořák’s Seventh Symphony and Cello Concerto with the fantastic Marcel Johannes Kits, and later in December for Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony and Sibelius’s Violin Concerto with the wonderfully talented Marie-Aude Melliès.

Very grateful for the welcome, the music, and the beginning of what I hope will be a long relationship with Botoșani. 🇷🇴🎶 thanks to Mirel Manea

I’ll be spending a lot of time in Romania this year, a country I’ve come to love so much. The support of the George Enescu International Festival and Competition since my debut there with Marcel Johannes Kits has meant a great deal to me—and I’m delighted that we’ll be sharing the stage again this season!

I’m excited to make my debuts with the Orchestra Națională Radio, the Filarmonica Pitești and the MÁV Szimfonikus Zenekar in Budapest. A particularly heartfelt thank you to Mirel, Mihai and the teams in Botoșani and Bacău for welcoming me back several times this season. That continued trust means so much.

I also can’t wait to assist Cristian Măcelaru during his final season as Music Director of the Orchestre National de France, returning as cover conductor for concerts in Paris and Germany featuring the wonderful Alexandra Conunova and Julia Fischer

And of course, there’s Essaouira—my favourite city in the world. Returning to make music there, in my home country, with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Maroc is both a joy and an honour.

So many musicians to meet and reconnect with, and so much music to share. Hope to see some of you along the way!

Meet Omar El Jamali! 🎻🎶🎵🇲🇦

Omar studied Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music under Claudio Ragazzi and Eric Reasoner, before pursuing conducting studies at l’École Normale de Musique de Paris and La Schola Cantorum de Paris. He is currently enrolled in an Executive Master in Communication at Sciences Po Paris in collaboration with McGill University.

Omar gained international recognition as a finalist and prizewinner at the Antal Doráti Conducting Competition in Hungary, the BMI Bucharest International Conducting Competition and the Erich Bergel International Conducting Competition in Romania.

In 2024, he reached the quarter-finals of the Malko Competition in Denmark. Following this achievement, he was invited to assist Cristian Măcelaru at the Orchestre National de France. The same year, he was selected as a Conducting Fellow at both the Cabrillo Festival in Santa Cruz and the George Enescu Festival in Bucharest.

He has worked as Assistant Conductor with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Philharmonia Orchestra and the George Enescu Philharmonic, assisting conductors including James Gaffigan, Daniel Harding and Santtu-Matias Rouvali.
He is regularly invited by the George Enescu Festival, the Mihail Jora Philharmonic Orchestra of Bacău, Filarmonica Botoșani, MÁV Szimfonikus Budapest and the Orchestre Philharmonique du Maroc.

In 2026, he makes his debut with the Orchestre National d’Avignon.

Alongside his conducting career, he is General Director and co-founder of the Académie de Direction de Neuilly et Grand Paris, a conducting academy based in Paris.

We look forward to welcoming Omar to the sixth edition of the Evgeny Svetlanov International Conducting Competition!

🎉 I am so excited to share with you that I will be returning to the
George Enescu Festival in 2025, this time as the conductor of the ORCHESTRA FILARMONICII MIHAIL JORA DIN BACĂU concert on Sep. 21st!

Not only that, but there is more news to come soon. We'll be performing 'Variations on a Rococo Theme, op. 33' with Marcel Johannes Kits.
