THE BEAUTY OF AFRICAN CULTURE...

In every African(IGBO) community, there are several festivals that promote chastity, good values and morals.

A good example of such festival is that whereby ladies of marriage-able age are paraded as they dance round the community.

The ladies are expected to be virgins. As a matter of fact, they are forbidden to loose virginity before the festival; a gateway to being found and married by credible and responsible men.

Moreover, such
females must
attain certain age before
joining the group set aside for the dance parade.

It was the norm then for families to uphold values and morals to prevent being disgraced.

Also, the training of the children was community responsibility.

The festival time is the time that parents take pride in beating their chest for having raised chaste children.

Consequently, being mindful of all these, every family is actively involved in the proper raising of the children.

It is time to restore morals and values into our system. Certainly, it will strengthen family ties and promote family values.
