On the occasion of the 257th anniversary of Napoleon birthday, we are delighted to present this portrait of the Emperor, painted by the Jacques-Louis David studio.

Portrait of Emperor Napoleon I, three-quarter length, in the uniform of a Colonel of the Grenadiers à pied of the Imperial Guard.
Oil on canvas, first quarter of the 19th century.
76.2 × 63.5 cm.

The present work is a bust-length version of David’s celebrated Napoleon in His Study at the Tuileries, painted in 1812.

Far from the usual images of imperial grandeur, Napoleon is portrayed in military dress, immersed in his work. The Code Civil on the desk, the burned-down candles and the clock showing past four in the morning all evoke the Emperor’s long nights devoted to his legislative work.

This iconic image inspired several bust-length versions, executed by Jacques-Louis David and his pupils within the atelier.

A true technical masterpiece, this exceptional work reinterprets the ancient military trophy to celebrate Imperial power. Napoleon Shaping an Empire

This summer, discover an exceptional online exhibition bringing together paintings, sculptures, drawings, porcelain, and silver that illustrate how Napoleon I shaped the visual identity of the First French Empire.

Inspired by Classical Antiquity and the rise of Neoclassicism, the exhibition explores the artistic language that transformed both monumental and decorative arts.

Featuring works by Carle Vernet, Lorenzo Bartolini, Francesco Righetti, Paul Prud’hon, and other leading artists of the period, the exhibition unfolds through three themes:

The diffusion of the Neoclassical imperial style through objects created for the private sphere.
The use of allegory to celebrate the values, virtues, and ambitions of the Empire.
Sculptural portraiture inspired by Greek and Roman statuary, shaping the image of Napoleon I and the new imperial power.

✨ Auguste de Leuchtenberg, “The Forgotten Prince” ✨

We are delighted to present a major rediscovery: the bust of Auguste de Leuchtenberg (1810–1835), sculpted by Lorenzo Bartolini (1777–1850).

Thanks to meticulous research, this magnificent marble has been reattributed to its rightful creator, while its sitter has also been conclusively identified.

The son of Eugène de Beauharnais and Augusta of Bavaria, Auguste de Leuchtenberg became Prince Consort of Portugal through his marriage to Maria II of Portugal, daughter of Pedro I of Brazil. His promising life was tragically cut short when he died at the age of just 24.

Through the artistry of Bartolini, the leading sculptor of the Bonaparte family, this marble portrait immortalizes the youth, elegance, and remarkable beauty of a prince now largely forgotten by history.
