[NEWS PRIX VIVIANE ESDERS - English]
The Viviane Esders Photo Prize concluded its 4th edition on 3 November 2025, honouring three laureates: Dörte Eissfeldt (Germany), Bodhan Holomicēk (Czechoslovakia), and Oleksandr Suprun (Ukraine).

Established in 2022, the Viviane Esders Endowment Fund has decided to discontinue its Photo Prize has decided to discontinue its Photo Prize in order to redefine its mission. Its activities will now focus on Viviane Esders’ photography collection, which has never been shown to the public.

In 2026, this new mission will unfold along several key lines:
- The comprehensive inventory of the 2,500 photographic prints that comprise the collection;
- The publication of thematic volumes, with a view to continuing the work initiated by the release of the first three volumes;
- The dissemination of the collection’s photographs through loans and exhibitions, developed in partnership with cultural institutions and venues in France and abroad;
- Collaboration with international curators for exceptional presentations.

At the same time, and with the aim of ensuring the Endowment Fund’s lasting presence within the contemporary art scene, the members of the Viviane Esders Fund will engage in a reflection on the terms of a potential donation to an institution capable of offering photography enthusiasts a permanent venue and continuous access to this unique collection—one that reflects a profound passion for photography and more than forty years of commitment to creators.

Preserved and made accessible to all, this collection will provide an opportunity for a privileged dialogue with a major art form, whose bicentenary is being celebrated this year.

[NEWS PRIX VIVIANE ESDERS]
Le Prix Photo Viviane Esders a clôturé sa 4e édition le 3 novembre 2025 en récompensant 3 lauréats : Dörte Eissfeldt (Allemagne), Bodhan Holomicēk (Tchécoslovaquie) et Oleksandr Suprun (Ukraine).

Créé en 2022, le Fonds de dotation Viviane Esders, a décidé d’arrêter son Prix Photo pour se réinventer et prendre un nouveau souffle. Ses activités seront recentrées sur la collection de photographies de Viviane Esders qui n’a jamais été présentée au public.

En 2026 cette nouvelle mission se déploiera autour de plusieurs axes :
- L’inventaire détaillé des 2500 tirages constituant la collection
- L’édition d’ouvrages thématiques en vue de poursuivre le travail entamé avec la parution des 3 premiers volumes.
- La diffusion des photographies de la collection au moyen de prêts et d’expositions établis en partenariat avec des institutions et lieux culturels tant en France qu’à l’étranger.
- La coordination avec des curateurs internationaux pour des présentations exceptionnelles.

Parallèlement, et dans le souci de procurer au Fonds de dotation un ancrage pérenne dans la scène artistique contemporaine, les membres du Fonds Viviane Esders engageront une réflexion sur les modalités d’une dation à une Institution susceptible d’offrir aux amoureux de la photographie un lieu et un accès permanent à cette collection inédite, reflet d’une véritable passion pour la photographie et d’un engagement de plus de 40 ans auprès des créateurs.

Conservée et présentée à tous, cette collection sera l’occasion d’un dialogue privilégié avec un art majeur dont on célèbre cette année le Bicentenaire.

Dörte Eißfeldt is a figure in contemporary German photography. She explores both the formal and conceptual potentials of the medium. Her artistic practice questions the status and processes of the photographic image. Through these projects, Eißfeldt pursues a profound quest: to go beyond simple representation to reveal photography as a processual object —one whose materiality, technical history, and conceptual tension shape a visual world that is both poetic and reflective. Her work has been exhibited on numerous occasions, and she is the author of more than twenty artist books.

✨ One month left to see Dörte Eißfeldt exhibition, finalist of 2025 Prix Viviane Esders, at Galerie Thomas Fischer, Berlin!

Dörte Eißfeldt has been exploring the creative and conceptual potential of photography as art since the late 1970s. In her first exhibition at Galerie Thomas Fischer she shows images of the 1980s and 1990s mostly drawn from larger series. Eißfeldt presents extracts of the visible world as we may have never considered them before: be it the human face or body or the effects of light, shadow and time on the physical conditions of things. At the same time, the materiality of different papers, textures, and printing techniques as well as the display of the prints on the wall or in a space play a decisive role.
