A round of applause for the performers of the 14th edition of Tapis Théâtre! Marking the show’s tenth year of championing local artists: developing characters, stories, and ideas, and bringing creatives together in Paris.

Thank you to these 23 performers for sharing their unique stories on our tapis. We can’t wait to see what comes next for you and your work!

An evening at Tapis Théâtre isn’t only about watching a variety of works in progress from across the creative spectrum. It also offers an opportunity to make creative connections, grow your community and enrich your artistic vocabulary. All in a beautiful setting with good food, wine and beer. With all that in the mix, it’s no surprise that every edition of Tapis Théâtre has been a show-stopping success.

I created Tapis Théâtre as a grassroots venture: a rug in the corner of my lounge as the stage, about five performers a night, friends paying at the door of my Marais apartment and I even ran a tiny bar from beneath my lofted bed.

Ten years on, it’s incredible to see how far this scratch night has come: not only the platform itself, but the projects and collaborations it has sparked. Last year, I went to the Edinburgh Fringe as the co-producer for 𝘈𝘓𝘖𝘕𝘌, and it was there that I realised I’d actually been producing for the past ten years… thanks to Tapis Théâtre.

Growing up in New Zealand, I was shaped by the “Number 8 Wire” mentality, the idea that anything can be made from nothing. With little funding in theatre, we were taught to create our own work. So when I arrived in Paris with no connections, I didn’t see an obstacle, I saw an opportunity to build something from the ground up. I needed a community, so I created one.

This night has been with me through my entire Paris journey. The very first Tapis Théâtre was also the night I rekindled the flame with a charming French jazz musician… whom I married last year.

After a few rounds of Tapis, I met enough people to stage 𝘈 𝘔𝘪𝘥𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵’𝘴 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮 at an amphitheatre in Montmartre, where I met Hannah Coyle. From 2018 to 2021, we spent four summers performing Shakespeare in Montmartre, learning, collaborating, and meeting incredible artists, including Nathalie Allison and Anthea Freya Hill. In 2023, we founded Alchemy Theatre and then through our Director’s Lab, we met Stuart McDougall, who quickly became an integral part of the company.

Sometimes, all it takes is a rug in the corner of your lounge to make Alchemy happen.

It was a pleasure to host the three nights of the 14th edition of Tapis Théâtre, can’t wait to see what’s next.

We closed our three-evening scratch EXTRAVAGANZA on Sunday with five excellent and distinct performances. A performance about reproduction set in a dystopian future, new writing about how the performer’s parents met, a story of a woman taking murderous revenge on men, a solo piece exploring who she was before becoming a mother and a mask piece on what it means to be “chez moi,”. It was a perfect Sunday show!

Sunday’s performances were:

𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝘽𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙔𝙤𝙪 - Written and Performed by Marina Giberti
𝘽𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙢 - Written & Performed by Clara Drzewuski
𝙔𝙚𝙨, 𝙉𝙤, 𝘽𝙖𝙗𝙮. - Created by Bree Turner. Performed by Alice Thillard

𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙯 𝙈𝙤𝙞 - Directed by Ladin Avşar, Performed by Ladin Avsar & Sencan Oytun Tokuç, Mask Fabrication by Ladin Avşar

Saturday’s edition of Tapis Théâtre was sublime! The evening weaved together a storytelling piece of starting a new life, new writing on rekindling an old relationship, a post-apocalyptic bilingual performance, a Wes Anderson–inspired drag act, and a joyfully ridiculous clown piece exploring what truly brings us together.

𝘽𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙨 - Written & Performed by Rashi Mishra
𝘼𝙩 𝘼 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙮𝙖𝙧𝙙, 4𝙥𝙢 - Written by Alice Susan Griffin, Directed by Iris Selmpesi & Esmée Donovan and Performed by Alice Susan Griffin and Moon Al DahDah
𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙇𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙪𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘 - Written and performed by Giosué Libois & Selam Tesfu Michael
𝘽𝙚𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙩’𝙨 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 Written by Alexander Nichols, Directed and performed by Anya Opshinsky
𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙂𝙧𝙚𝙜𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝘾𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙧 - Written & Performed by Andrew Turowski & Noah Plasse

A round of applause to all our artists who graced Saturday’s tapis!

Mission control - we’re go for Edinburgh Fringe! 💥 Alchemy, in association with , is bringing back the award-winning feminist sci-fi thriller: ALONE to Assembly’s The Box at 13:35 at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe. Tickets are on sale as of TODAY! You can buy yours by following the link in our bio. 🚀🎟️

“On a failing spacecraft, two female astronauts fight to save Earth. This heart-racing, sci-fi thriller explores survival, climate change, human resilience and the silencing of female voices in STEM. As time runs out and tensions rise, this intense, captivating, heartfelt show asks: who will save our home?”
Winner: Best Drama, WHAT THE FRINGE?! Winner: 2025 Fringe Theatre Award.

There was a certain magic to performing at The Box last year; the intimate setting made the audience feel as though they were right there, trapped on the ship alongside our astronauts. We’re thrilled to return!

Sunday’s team from the Tapis development sessions: we’re so excited to share what they’ve been creating!

Pictured here are our performers: Bree Turner, Alice Thillard, Catherine Khédir-Clifford, Liz Laplassotte, Sarah, Dareos Khalili, Marina Giberti, Alice Susan Griffin, and Iris Selmpesi. (Hatice Irèm Utkin is missing from the photo as she had to dash out early.)

Six acts shared their works-in-progress. Within this group, we had performances in both English and French. A major throughline in Sunday’s session centered around children: the decision of whether to have them, the journey of choosing to start a family, who you were before parenthood, and the postpartum stresses of becoming a new mother. As usual, there was plenty of laughter and a few tears as well.

We’re truly so excited to share what these performers have been preparing with you NEXT WEEKEND. Make sure you get your tickets via the link in our bio or on our website.

➡️ March 20th, 21st & 22nd, we’re bringing you 15 acts spread across THREE nights of performances.
