VASE n°1
design
by mexican artisans from the oaxaca region in– black clay –barro negro
vase no. 1 from the collection mezcalienne rises like a modernist sculpture, born from two shapes wheel-thrown by hand and united in a single breath. its surface is patiently polished with a curved quartz stone, combed with fine grooves along its rim, before surrendering to the heat of an underground kiln. there, beneath the comales, smoke gently blackens the clay, giving it its deep and mysterious hue.
topped with a mezcalero, a small round flask designed for mezcal, vase no. 1 can also become an oaxacan soliflore, guardian of a single flower.
nourished by ancestral forms and guided by a desire for surrealism, constance guisset reinvents this traditional language to create unexpected assemblages, echoing a reinterpreted heritage
a one-of-a-kind creation, vase no. 1 is produced in a limited edition of 8 pieces, with 2 artist’s proofs, each signed, dated, and numbered.
available exclusively by special order, it stands as both a work of art and a testament to tradition reimagined.vase no. 1 from the collection mezcalienne , designed by constance guisset and produced by maison marcoux mexico – paris, was first exhibited at the museo nacional de antropología in mexico city during mexico design week in october 2018. it was later shown in paris at the mexican cultural institute during paris design week 2019, as well as in several other exhibitions in london, lille, lisbon, limoges, and beyond.
