Mentre in occidente si raccontano storie su valorosi cavalieri che sconfiggono draghi per liberare donzelle in difficoltà in cina il drago è una creatura mitologica benigna, portatore di piogge per i raccolti, angelo custode, simbolo di primavera, emblema del potere imperiale.
Questa figura si è sviluppata in 4000 anni di storia cinese, è cresciuta insieme al popolo nei secoli attraverso la storia, la mitologia, la religione, le tradizioni; ad oggi è simbolo di questa affascinante nazione e del suo stato. È a lui che abbiamo deciso di dedicare il progetto per la nuova stazione di Xi' an, il viaggiatore arriverà alla stazione ricevendo il benvenuto dal dragone con tutti gli auguri di buona fortuna nel suo viaggio in oriente. Scavalcando i binari ad 8 metri di altezza sembra quasi stia per atterrare sulla leggera altura artificiale creata dal centro commerciale. In pianta tutto si muove secondo le sue curve, le sue geometrie come il vento disegna le scie delle nuvole. La struttura in alzato è composta dalla ripetizione seriale di portali in acciaio alti circa 35 metri, di larghezza variabile, che inclinandosi sia in pianta sia in alzato conferiscono alla massa le caratteristiche forme curvilinee del dragone. A sud i portali incorniciano la parete vetrata, questa è una soluzione sia strategica, per poter recuperare più luce e calore possibile, sia estetica poiché in prospetto apparirà come la pancia dell’animale mitologico. A nord una parete completamente coperta di tegole a forma di squame protegge dal freddo e conferisce alla struttura l’aspetto della pelle di serpente del drago.
Whereas in the West we use to tell stories about valiant knights who defeat dragons in order to save damsels who are in danger, in Cina (better in the East), the dragon is a mythological kind creature, herald of rain for the harvest, guardian angel, symbol of Spring, emblem of imperial power.
This figure developed for 4000 years of Chinese history, grew together with the people in centuries through History, Myth, Religion, Customs; nowadays it is the symbol of this fascinating Nation and State. That’s why we are dedicating to it the design of the new station of Xi’an; the travellers arriving in the station will be welcome by the dragon wishing them good luck in travelling throughout the East.
The tracks climbing over at 8 meters high, it looks like they are going to land on the artificial upland created by the shopping center. On the drawing, everything moves according to the dragon curves: its geometries, just like wind, draw clouds’ contrail. The elevation structure is composed by the repetition in series of 35 meters high steel portals with variable width, which banking both in diagrams and in elevations gives to the mass the dragon’s curvilinear shape. In the south, the portals frame the glass wall; this is a solution both strategic (to catch up as much light and heat as possible) and aesthetic al because in the perspective view it will appear like the dragon’s stomach. In the north, a wall completely covered by roof tiles with a scale shape protects by cold and gives to the structure the look of dragon’s snake skin.
