AND THE CORD WON A DOX:AWARD SPECIAL MENTION CPH:DOX !
Statement from the Jury:
Giving room for a decent birth as a metaphor for resistance in a bodily form, this emerging voice captivated us with its humanity, tenacity and empathy. The jury would like to acknowledge this filmmaker-to-watch with an honorable mention.
Congratulations to Nolwenn Herve for her unforgettable debut, The Cord.
Nolwenn Hervé gave a very emotional speech:
This is my first feature film, it took me more than 5 years to make it. I had time to reflect as filmmaker but also as a woman. I imagine we’re here both to share stories and to offer perspectives on the world.
After CPH, my film will begin another journey. I’d like this film not to be seen as a women’s film made by a woman for women.
I’d like everyone in this room—and beyond—to feel a personal connection to the plight of women. You all have at least a mother, a grandmother, a sister, a daughter, a friend, a wife… When women’s rights are threatened, entire communities and families are thrown into turmoil.
My film is set in Venezuela, but it’s clear that even in our own countries, in Europe or elsewhere, the rise of conservatism, the of crises, are threatening sexual and reproductive rights—and it has to be everybody’s matter.
How do we fight against this? I believe, among other things, through film/cinema—by highlighting our skills rather than our physical appearance as women, as it is too often the case still in 2026—and by making space for us women and other marginalized groups of filmmakers to share our stories and bring change.
